Her friend reported her missing. Must have been a truly scary time out on the deep ocean.

Yes, really entertaining race. Glad to see Hamilton got some at last.

What is going on with Perez? Just bad luck?

Kane was blatantly barged out, crashing into Southgate and over an umpire's chair.

Quote: "England was without captain and striker Harry Kane for the shootout after he collided with manager Gareth Southgate on the touchline while challenging for a ball and appeared to be hurt. He was replaced by Toney."

Also some mistaken referee decisions regarding corner kicks, but similar happened in the later Turkey/Netherlands match.

Posted in: Man arrested for assaulting employee, refusing to pay bill at hostess club in Sapporo See in context

Once on a college ian-ryoko 'comfort trip' I was asleep when there was a banging on the hotel door. It was my roommate, a professor from the same college. I got up to let him in; he was ashen-faced and shivering with fear. "Sssshhhh..... Let me hide under the bed!" he said. "They are after me, down in the lobby!"

It was about 2:00 am, I noticed. Apparently the people he had been drinking with had quietly left, one by one, until he was the only one in the bar, and faced with a similar ridiculously hefty bill.

"What has this guy got me into?" I wondered as I went back to bed. Thankfully there was no more to it.

Regardless of that one missed penalty shot, Portugal looked like the better side throughout.

If Pepe is 41, then surely Ronaldo too has a few years left in him.

Well, if so many readers here dislike the idea of ¥50,000 yen bills, how about learning from ¥1,000 and ¥2,000, and going at least for ¥20,000 yen notes? That would make your suitcase lighter by half!

Good to see Viktor Orban in a more positive light. I hope something good will come of this initiative. Perhaps Orban can be a conduit between Putin and Zelenskiy and perhaps Ukraine will find a way to allow minorities like their Hungarian and Russian speakers to keep their own language but learn Ukrainian too, somewhat like the bilingual Canadian model.

Posted in: Mercedes driver Russell wins Austrian GP after Verstappen, Norris clash at front See in context

Max has history with this kind of action under stress. He got to finish the race and pick up the points, and never had to take the ten seconds off, despite his penalty for causing the accident. (And despite the article saying it was Norris who "crashed into him".) Norris was knocked out of the race, and what would have been almost certain victory.

These two are friends, or they were, but Max has yet to apologize for all the weaving.

Waves of hysteria, probably fomented by DPRK who hate him.

Posted in: Japan to launch new banknotes; 1st design change in 20 years See in context

Quote: "The new notes come as cash-loving Japan is aiming to push for cashless payments. The value of cashless payments has been increasing in the country, but was still shy of the government's target of around 40 percent in 2023. As of 2021, such payments had already accounted for more than half of the total in Britain, Canada and the United States as well as China, Singapore and South Korea, according to industry group data."

Who in 'cash-loving Japan' is aiming to push for cashless payments, and why? This article is written as though cash is bad and cashless (being pushed by unknown forces) is good.

When there is a natural disaster anywhere in the world where the electricity goes down, cards and mobile phones are useless and cash suddenly becomes king again, (for those who still have some), and Japan is a particularly disaster-prone country.

The Chinese (or the Russians) would love to get in there instead of the US. Then the problems would probably be even worse.

In the meantime the US needs to keep their act clean.

Perhaps one day Okinawa will be allowed to live in peace without interference from outside players. I certainly hope so.
