Pizza Hut Japan now sells…grilled cheese ramen

Pizza Hut is famous for selling pizzas, but here in Japan, the chain has been thinking outside the box, recently adding new items like burgers to its menu. Just when we thought things couldn’t get any crazier, we heard whispers of another surprising addition to the menu, and this one has flown under everyone’s radar as it hasn’t been advertised, and when you search for it on Twitter, only five people have posted about it.

The menu item we’re talking about is one called “Yaki Cheese Ramen” (焼きチーズラーメン”), or Grilled Cheese Ramen.

With Pizza Hut itself keeping the dish a relative secret, we knew we had to find out what it was like, so we headed over to the official website and after a bit of digging around, we found it there under the “Campaign” tab.

▼ The ramen is classified as a side menu item, and it costs 560 yen.

After putting in an order for the ramen, we called Pizza Hut to ask them how long it had been on the menu. Surprisingly, they told us it had been quietly released around mid-March, but despite being around for three whole months, the world is still yet to know about it.

▼ That all changes today, when we finally lift the lid on the box and find out what Pizza Hut ramen tastes like.

Well, it’s definitely ramen noodles, but...

There was no broth to be found here — only noodles, which, despite looking like spaghetti, were bona fide noodles. While ramen purists might turn their noses up at a dish like this, we’re open to all sorts of noodle interpretations, so we took a giant slurp and found it was absolutely delicious.

Though it was a bit like mac and cheese, only with long noodles instead of macaroni, it actually tasted a lot like ramen. In fact, the warm, cheesy deliciousness of it all was reminiscent of Pizza Hut’s ramen pizza we tried earlier this year.

Produced in collaboration with Japanese ramen chain Tenka Ippin, the pizza was stronger in flavour, due to the many ingredients and seasonings in its topping, but the Grilled Cheese Ramen had a similar broth-like seasoning that gave it the same sense of decadent moreishness, and we were totally seduced by it.

With just cheese, seasoning and noodles as ingredients, it’s a simple dish but one that satisfies. So next time you’re ordering a pizza from Pizza Hut, be sure to check out the side dishes — you might just find some secrets there that’ll surprise you!

This looks interesting as a one-off try. I have no serious chronic health problems, so if I get the chance I’ll give it a go.

I feel sorry, though, for the people in whom this kind of article triggers apoplexy. I hope they can recover from the sight of it without long-term damage.

Trying to make a pig’s ear into a silk purse?

How cheap can we go and how little nutritious value can be eked out at he same time?

This dish royally underperforms on both counts…

Ideal for people who been on the razzle with their mates and fancy something like that or maybe teens who often like to try this type of weird stuff.

Certainly not pour moi, I’m a culture vulture you see, blimey ain’t eaten nowt of that kind of stuff for donkeys. Into me healthier grub you see, few burgers now and then but nah not this, doesn’t appeal at all.

Death. I know death is waiting for me. That's because this looks good to me and I would try it to decide if I liked it or not. It will probably kill me, but I'm just the devil-may-care type that would try anything once. Before the nutrition police get here, let me eat free or burp.

I'll pass. To each their own though.

but despite being around for three whole months, the world is still yet to know about it.

Perhaps there is a good reason for that.

I would guess this would taste similar to the baked cheese spaghettis on US Pizza-Hut restaurants. I love that menu.

Looks like a bowl of vomit. No thanks.

Looks tasty enough for me to try. Still, Pizza Hut is best with their namesake. That's what most patrons come to them for in the first place.

An important part of ramen is the soup base, and you can even add more halfway through.

Ramen is often looked upon as 'poor boy/girl' food for university and college students trying to scrape by in America (easy to fix, ya know) but I understand its importance in Japanese cuisine. The lady punk band Shonen Knife has a song celebrating it, 'Ramen Rock'. It details about how they like to chill out and chow down with it after doing a show. Of course, many of their songs are about food anyway, and they have this kawaii demeanor. Nothing wrong with that.

Ramen is an important dish in Japan. When made without chemical additives, it is a healthy meal. We have ramen about every two weeks. Additionally, we also enjoy Soba noodles, Chinese noodles, and pasta. The secret lies in the best chicken broth soup.

I live on the edge and add more 1/3 through.

?????

1 + 1/3 = one and a third. 1 + 1/2 = one and a half.
