Posted in: Do you think school teachers in Japan are overworked? See in context

Junior High School & High school l teachers not only have to teach their classes, they also have to coach the various clubs after school & weekends. Even though many of them no nothing of the sport or whatever it is they're coaching. & they move to different clubs every year or 2. My nephew, a junior high teacher, leaves @ 7am & returns from work past 9pm every day. Also has to go in on weekends as there are clubs to coach.

Instead of the bulletin boards, maybe they could use that money to hold debates , so we could actually hear their policies instead of just seeing their faces & names.

I was always under the impression that Sapporo was the 1st brewery in Japan, but with these dates it would mean for sure that Copeland & Kirin were the 1st.

I just don't understand why people would want Lawson in the foreground of a photo of the beautiful Mt. Fuji.

The problem with "shoganai" is they use it wayyyy too much. They say it w/out even trying to fix or alleviate the problem.

Posted in: Bears designated as animal subject to subsidized culling in Japan See in context

Besides the bears and the inoshishi, crows seriously need to be culled as well. They're taking over cities.

Posted in: Japan to boost child allowances to tackle falling birthrate See in context

They have to start the allowance much much earlier. Potential parents are thinking more about the immediate future. Nursery schools are expensive. New clothes basically every year because they're growing. Etc....

Posted in: Is Japan’s custom of slurping noodles irritating, and why do people do it? See in context

It's their country so it's fine to do it here, but they should avoid it when traveling overseas.

I also believe when slurping you also get in some of the broth. In the states, as kids, we'd blow on the noodles to cool em off, but then they lose lots of the broth flavor.

Posted in: Do you think foreign technical intern trainees in Japan are really just cheap labor? See in context

I would think some are & some aren't. intern trainees are used in most places. It can be a win win. Trainees get some free training & trainers get some free labor. Pretty sure there are some companies out there abusing the system though.

2 things: The Dodgers instantly gained basically 120 million new fans with the 3rd largest GDP in the world. Great investment. & I'd rather see the players get the $$$ than the billionaire owners.

If they had cracked the code, wouldn't America then be able to find the fleet?

This is why they are not being culled. Something has to be done though.

It may seem like the crow has a negative association, that could not be further from the truth. Japanese culture places a great emphasis on these birds and they believe that they symbolize gratitude, guidance, divineness and good luck.

Yatagarasu (八咫烏) is a mythical crow and a guiding god in Shinto mythology. During Emperor Jimmu's Eastern Expedition, he was guided from the Kumano Region to Yamato Province by Yatagarasu, who was sent by Takamimusubi.

Posted in: Do you support the Japanese government's plan to open the country's first casino (or integrated resort) in Osaka? See in context

As their plan is to charge a high entrance fee for Japanese, their obvious goal is overseas gamblers coming in. Gamblers do spend lots of money, but I wouldn't think they'd be the best type of tourists you'd like in your country.

J Gov always complaining, rightly so, about these missile tests & so freezes certain funds. But, if I'm not mistaken, the bulk of the Pachinko profits, which are mainly owned by the North Koreans, goes to NK. Can't understand why they don't put a stop to that. Profits in the billions from pachinko.

Meiyouwenti I wonder why you got some thumbs down on your comment as it's a fact that many Pachinko parlors are owned by N Koreans & the profits are sent back to NK. Possibly they just don't know the facts.
