Posted in: Kishida outlines plans to tackle falling birthrate See in context

A somewhat big problem is the lack & cost of nursery schools. Have to train more teachers & open up more nursery schools. I often hear about kids on waiting lists to get in to the schools. Just throwing money at the problem doesn't seem as it would be much help.

Fighto! There is a mercy rule. If you're up by 15 after the 5th or 10 after the 7th. This game ended in the 5th. That's only in the qualifying rounds though.

Posted in: Kishida says ban on same-sex marriage not discrimination See in context

The Japanese are overwhelmingly conservative & afraid of change which is why the LDP has ruled since the 50's. Except for a small & very short glitch in between. So, even if this does hurt Kishida, the party will still stay in charge & nothing will happen.

Posted in: Ex-student awarded damages over high school rule that banned dating See in context

So, the Jgov is always crying about the low birth rate. They try to push for more drinking hoping that will lead to more sex. Aging population becoming a huge problem, but we can't allow HS dating. Sure wish they'd get their heads out of their collective arses.

There aren't enough workers for the menial jobs & Japan doesn't want to open its borders to let workers in besides in dribs & drabs. So, going to be the way going forward unless there is some drastic change in the Jgov & don't see that happening any time soon.

Of course, that's awesome they do that, but I hope they realize the clean up is already added on to the ticket price. They should be getting discounts !!

As sleek as it looks, the trip to Hakata only shaves off about 15 minutes of the time from the previous kamome & the ride is almost twice the price. Also, have to change trains once. Pretty much useless

Posted in: Japan to mandate safety devices in 44,000 buses after child's death See in context

Is a safety device really needed? Are Japanese really that undependable and unreliable?. All they have to do is walk to the back of the bus & check if there are any children left on the bus. It's not like there are any hiding spots on the bus. :-(

Posted in: Japan's loosening of COVID-19 entry restrictions may keep citizens wearing masks See in context

Been vaccinated 3 times & I & the people around me were wearing masks when I contracted covid. So, not much ( no ) faith in the masks. I do wear a mask when going indoors just as to not be ridiculed by the clueless people around me. Also believe the government sends mix messages partly intentionally as to keep the people confused & afraid. Then they are easier to control.

How many people use knives & forks to eat hamburgers ? The occasional person with a salad maybe. And the top cover that the straw goes thru is plastic. Pretty sure they'll still put everything in a large plastic bag for take outs.

Does anyone actually read the article or just the headlines & then draw snide conclusions??

The story is based on Osaka's organization Play Academy, which provides grants and training for community sports organizations.

Posted in: Do you think Russia's invasion of Ukraine will spur Japan to acquire its own nuclear weapons? See in context

I sure hope so. Japan is surrounded by nations with nuclear capability. As the old adage goes: you don't bring a knife to a gun fight. They wouldn't be the only ones with nukes, so they wouldn't be careless with them as that would bring about their own annihilation.

I'm putting 1 child thru university & I'm under the 9.8 mill threshold, but I don't get anything. Seems quite unfair. As Nibeki32 suggested, just reduce our taxes. That would help everyone !

Not only is just 13.8% of the population vaccinated, most likely 95% of that 13.8% are over the age of 65 & I don't think that many over that age plan to attend the games or even be out on the streets during the games. If 13.8% of the population aged 20-50 were vaccinated, that would sound " a little" better.

Posted in: Suga refers to Taiwan as country, drawing fire from China See in context

Amazes me how the worl world is a fraid to stand up to the bully country China. Taiwan is a country. Plain & simple. They complain about evry little thing they find offensive & the whole world kowtows to them. The world just cares about money. They complain about human rights & the such, but long as China wields the almighty legal tender, Taiwan, Tibet & everywhere else in the area will never live in total harmony. :-(
