Posted in: 'Pace is too slow.' Women gradually rise in Japanese politics but face deep challenges See in context

“There are growing expectations for women to play a greater role in politics,” said parliamentarian Chinami Nishimura,

But there are not growing expectations for, for example, the construction industry.....

Why might that be? Arent we being told that we can all do the same jobs? Or is there only one particular type of job coveted...

A crime is a crime. He should face the same penalty as anyone getting caught stealing a saw.

Lock him up.

at 79, he would need assessment to find out if he is still compos mentis.

And we are not robots. Same RULES apply, but the penalty etc needs more nuance than that. Or you could also look at it this way, to a 79 year old a 1y custodial sentence, is not the same burden as to a 23yr old, or 33yr old etc.

This case is truly heartbreaking...... although no mal intent perse, there needs to be accountability, even if only to serve as a reminder to other childcare services of the potenitally lethal consequences of inadequate concentration on the job.

Posted in: Japan nursing care bankruptcies hit record high for Jan.-June period See in context

I would imagine most nursing home owners have much more than 10m yen in assets. Going bankrupt means workers and creditors going unpaid, and should not be an easy way of not paying people.

Yes something doesnt add up.... this is the one sector that you would think should be doing well, considering the demographic shift and where most of the county's savings are locked up........ perhaps owners obfuscating cashflows then going "bankrupt"....

That is fine, are they going to start enforcing men to pay their child support arrears.

If they have access to the children then there should be enforcement. If not.... what is the man paying for?

With this twisted logic, they can "solve" the matter in an absolutely brilliant way - free for some and a current fee for others... Makes sense, ey?

they have no prob checking age related discounts and disabilites, which require some form of proof. Proving residency is not so onerous.

Posted in: Mayor considering increasing Himeji Castle entry fees for overseas visitors See in context

Why should I have to provide an ID? It is illegal to even ask. Just like staying in a hotel

No its not. If you want the resident discount, prove you are a resident. Otherwise they will happily take the non discounted fare from you.

To yall grumbling about "Racism" - you have proof of residency for a discount, so use it. Problem solved.

Also as someone who lives in a tourist area, I really do not mind higher prices for tourists. If the same income can be achieved with less tourists, then why not? I get the feeling that most grumbling about this, dont live in tourist hotspots.

Call me crazy, but I'd rather not supportva candidate who is backed by people who are paid to be concussed. Somehow, I don't think they're very knowledgeable on politics.

overlooking the disrespect for the level of training and discipline required for professional level MMA, why would you assume they are any less knowledgeable than the millionaire narcists of hollywood ?

“You are gangsters!” De Niro, who starred in “Goodfellas” and won an Oscar for “The Godfather Part II," shouted at the Trump backers, who responded with obscenities.

you mean DeNiro, who is famous for shouting four letter expletives against "trump" on stage? Perhaps a little bias is showing?

During the Enoch Powell I was an adult and lived in the UK during the period.

Then you have no excuse for not understand or willfully misrepresenting it.

"he believed in it" - he believed in a metaphor? You are just desperate to tie him into the "blood" part of the metaphor to feign fear of violence etc.

"White" is meaningless.

England/Wales is 74% "British". You can add in Scotland and Northern Ireland to give you slightly more favourable numbers, but that is only a temporary situation.

https://www.ethnicity-facts-figures.service.gov.uk/uk-population-by-ethnicity/national-and-regional-populations/population-of-england-and-wales/latest/

And the point is not ethnic change, its cultural change. Cultural change on an unprecedented scale. We already had enough crime and poverty, no need to open the door to more.

The whole point of the river Tiber omen was that it represented civil unrest and wars - and that seems to be where we are headed.

Look at the state or Ireland now, they illegals are getting in through the back door in the North, and I don't see them standing for it much longer.

Posted in: More than 10,000 people have reached UK in small boats since January See in context

Enoch Powell's "Rivers of Blood" failed to appear like a tale from the Bible.

You show a great misunderstanding if you took the meaning as expecting a river of blood to appear.

The whole point is that LIKE the rivers foaming with blood, the state of immigration was a bad omen.

So I think you will find that, he was right.

Y'all ignoring the fact that tourism despite its monetary benefits, also has a social cost. The demand for tourism is extremely high - what is wrong with balancing that out with a different price for non-residents in the service industry?

f you want cheap labor to accept the minimum wage, you must accept the consequences.

Yup, pay peanuts.... thats what you get.

It is often ignored that there is an external social cost to having certain jobs at barely subsistence level incomes.
