Why Sanpogutsu is a dog walking summer essential

Hotter temperatures increase the chances of heatstroke, not just for us but also for our pets. Even at temperatures like 20 degrees Celsius, dogs run the risk of being unable to regulate their body temperature. A rule of thumb is to avoid long walks during days when the temperature goes anywhere above 28 degrees Celsius. Planning and bringing the right accessories on your walk can make a world of difference. Heatstroke and heat exhaustion are avoidable. Always carry some sort of hydration, plot your route in a shaded area, educate yourself on the first few signs of heat stroke and consider having your pup wear some dog shoes to shield their paws from hot surfaces.

The Sanpogutsu are dog shoes made to protect your dog’s paws. Whether you're hiking in the mountains or walking your neighborhood daily during summer, you can never be too careful. The shoes are water-resistant and durable, making them a must for any outdoor activity. Available in two colors (gray and red), they come in sizes ranging from XXS to XL.

Available online on the Pet Advance website starting at the end of July.

Whoever made those shoes should try themselves first crawling on the heated pavement and see how many steps they would last.

The shoes are to protect their paw pads from being burned on hot pavement. In the summer I wait until dusk to walk. The sidewalks cool off pretty fast when there is no direct sunlight.

Everyone says dogs don't sweat but when I brush my Huskies during our walks their flanks are often sweaty.

Dogs sweat through their paws, primarily. There are a few sweat glands on there snoots. Then comes panting. So the shoes wouldn't work well, unless I'm just missing something. When I was a kid we had a black Spaniel of the name Blacky. I worshipped that dog. Now I'm a cat man but I learned everything I could about dogs. I'm amazed I remember all this.

I've seen water vests for bigger dogs...a better idea to cool them.

I think dogs can only "release " body heat through their tongues, by panting.

Dogs in hot cars are a definite no.

Dont take your dog shopping.

I can imagine that the dog might not be entirely happy with the shoes, but the sidewalks in big cities can get really hot in summer so I can imagine why you would want them.

If I had to limit my dog walking to temps below 28C I wouldn't be able to walk dogs for half the year where I live /: Either walk in the early morning or wait until dusk, and even then we have temps well into the 30s late into the night. In fact this week night time temps probably wont go below 27C. I don't think those shoes would last on my dogs. They would chew them off in minutes.

Dog shoes and sweaters are things I would never put on my dog. They like to feel things, just like people do as long as it doesn't hurt.

Walk your dog in the cool mornings or evenings on ground that isn't boiling hot. Let your dog cool itself in summer and keep warm naturally in the winter. They don't like clothes. I know, cuz I was a dog in my past life.

Good advice about canine heatstroke - and short-haired dogs like my whippet can also get sunburnt!

But I don't think he would have put up with those shoes. Dogs derive a huge amount of info regarding their environment from their feet. Also, each dog's feet have a unique smell, and their olfactory sense is sufficiently sharp that they can track the path of their friends!
