AntiquesavingToday  10:13 am JST

From the official Fuji website

Anyone who climbs Fujisan is personally responsible for his or her own safety. Before beginning the ascent, however, to aid rapid response for rescue in case of distress or disappearance, you must complete and submit a Climbing Plan that lists route, schedule, equipment, group members, and who to contact in case of emergency. Be aware that, even after submitting a Climbing Plan, you may not receive permission to enter the mountain.***

https://www.fujisan223.com/en/three_rules/

You need permission off season!

No you don’t, it’s a national park and people are free to roam it anytime and any day of the year. There is no law requiring a permission to go into the nature. Just because they write it on a website does not make it a law.

You are requested to submit a climbing plan with the police but that is also not a requirement.

nabelitoToday  08:56 am JST

you cannot travel to another country to perform a crime (not a crime in the destination) and get a free pass.

Maybe for things like underage sex tourism, but drinking? Legally in the country you're in, and only a couple of years of age under your home country's laws? Get real. Young Americans have long enjoyed "underage" drinking in places like Europe.

Read the comment again with a bit more thinking. You cannot choose which laws you obey and which you don’t, unless you are ready to accept the consequences.

Nowhere in the comment did I write that these kids will get prosecuted, they wouldn’t even in Japan.

Ah_soToday  07:32 am JST

This is ridiculous. The individuals involved obeyed the local laws. How is this even news?

It is not enough to obey local laws when you are temporarily travelling, you also need to obey the laws of your country of residence. In other words, you cannot travel to another country to perform a crime (not a crime in the destination) and get a free pass. This applies to most western countries in the world as well.

Japan seeks wage hikes, over 1% GDP growth as population shrinks

An inflation-adjusted growth rate of over 1 percent AND a stable 2 percent inflation? My arithmetic is not what it was but that suggests a nominal 3 percent growth rate in an economy that is shrinking population-wise.

Growth ia never inflation adjusted, inflation is the CAUSE of growth even when in real terms, nothing is growing. That is what Japan also desires like other countries, always “growing” even with less people.

That is the real reason for 2% inflation target, even when it means the general population will be more and more poor each year.

Why would anyone want to abuse a conbini staff?

I would think nobody WANTS to, but when the incompetence or ignorance of the staff is on full display, sometimes there is no choice BUT to get angry!

It’s not about abuse or thinking customer is the god, it’s about common sense for thinking the staff knows the store he/she/it is working in.

dbsaiyaToday  08:57 am JST

We raised our son without all the subsidies that parents currently enjoy, we worked hard, and saved and he is now independent and working on his PhD. Our job is done, but we are now living on pension and doing small business work and we have to pay more taxes to support this child initiative and on top of that they're going to cut social security. No end to the madness. How about reducing the number of politicians in the Diet, reducing their pay and perks for starters, then cut into the public funds? LDP is self-satisfied with this new law. Need to vote them out.

Currently, as of right now, many parents don’t enjoy any benefits due to the archaic “highest wage earner” - policy. 2x8M get all benefits where as 1x16M gets nothing plus pays more in taxes.

Reducing then number of policitians is nice on paper, but it’s peanuts and would show up in the 5th decimal.

AustPaulToday  06:45 am JST

I’m confused, so it was the tourists that were poking holes in it even though it was erected on top of the roof?

It’s not on the roof as it would have to be many times the size of the Lawson to hide Mt Fuji from 30m away.

It’s set up across the road next to the photo spot so 2.5x20m is enough.

They also start to cut wages of employees who are not in senior management position when they reach their late forties to early fifties. The cut is progressive but can reach 30 % to 50% over the years!

You mean illegally, right? Otherwise that's against the law.

Not illegally. At least I know that the 3 largest banks (Mizuho, SMBC and MUFJ do it and they obviously would never break the law.

I know this seems crazy when you are not from Japan but it is what happens

That is not correct as it would be illegal. You can check the average salary for those companies snd it steadily increases until the mandatory retirement age of 60.

What happens at 60, you can be rehired to your old position with a meager salary to work those inbetween years 60-65 before you can receive pension.

Hervé L'EisaToday  08:34 am JST

One of significant unhealthy aspects of teleworking/remote working is the blurring of the lines between work time and private time. It's psychologically damaging, creating a sense of enslavement. The constantly connected trend increases stress and has detrimental effects on people and their work/private relationships.

This is the main drawback of remote working. Some people like isolation and don’t care about meeting people at the office, but for most people the social part of ”being part of the team” is very important. And no, it’s not efficient to sit around sipping coffee at the office but it is part of the job.

I also enjoyed coffee breaks and lunch with coworkers before, but there’s nobody around anymore. Feels more lonely for sure.

A few million? You are obviously oblivious to the covid spending that triggered the global runaway inflation. We are not talking about millions or even billions, but much, much more.

But in order to stay with current GDP growth and size, Japan need population that can sustain its own domestic demand and labor force, never mind, India will pass Japan by next year.

GDP growth by inflation is what the IMF and people-in-power are driving. It’s not real growth. India’s population will never stop growing and that is the driver of their GDP.

“Advances in productivity” outside of technology is just that unit price is higher so your gdp grows on paper.
