Take care everyone. Watch out for anyone in the street in distress.
Where I live in Australia, we get 40C +. Highest recorded is 47.3C.

Never too early to get some practice in. I've never got used to summer in Japan, just endure it with as little outdoor exposure as possible.

Thanks for letting us know.
It’s not a news story — it’s only the picture of the day.

Tree canopy cover, the one thing most effective at cooling street temperatures, declined in Tokyo from 9.2% in 2013 to 7.3% in 2022 and it's just getting worse. Unless the Tokyo government stops its war on trees, Tokyo streets will just get more and more uncomfortable as global warming continues.
(In comparison, tree cover in London is over 21%, with local government plans to increase it to 30%).

Time to hit the beaches.

Long sleeve shirts and jackets are still common too. Talk about ways to induce heatstroke.

...and.. where do you plan to planting trees in Tokyo?... sidewalks are a scarse resourse in the city (specially in the central areas)... the only way to increase green coverage in Tokyo in a significant way is to increase the number of parks but try to do that in a city that a square metre of land cost US 20,000 or more.
And don't say to plant trees on buildings... that is a stupid thing that cost a lot in the implementation and in the maintenance.... it looks nice yes, but is dumb.

The A/C 19°C and electric fans have been on full since last week at my place and will stay on 24/7 until at least late October.

I'm assuming this is a joke, or you live alone. And your electricity bill? Also not good for your health to do that since body won't be able to regulate its temperature. You'll just end up getting sick.

An Oz summer is way preferable to the unrelenting heat and humidity of high summer in Japan. Apart from the occasional and very welcome typhoon, weeks go by here where the procession of days hardly varies an iota in their constant oppressiveness. Life without an aircon, an endurance trial if ever there was one. North of Kanto isn’t as bad, or as bad for as long, but the bulk of the population live in the torrid zone south of there. In Australia, even on the hottest day, in the shade of a tree one feels instant relief. Not so here, where the oppressive, clammy heat envelopes one from all directions and there’s little respite offered by shade.
