This is textbook alarmist journalism at its best. France in ‘turmoil”

as it prepares to ‘host the world”

the Olympics will be fine

Boeing just today pleaded guilty to a criminal fraud charge involving the 737Max.

346 people died in those two crashes a couple of years ago, so yeah, I ain’t flyin the 737 Max.

Better than that right wing nutter Tamogami. Lord knows what he would have done.

dont think you can really blame Koike for this current wave of overtourism. That is more a result of the weak yen.

Well, I’m guessing the BBC will focus on British athletes, the CBC on Canadians and ABC, or whatever US channel it is will focus on American athletes. What do you expect?

He doesn’t have much left in the tank so just an end of career money grab.

anything to avoid going back to Russia.

Every NPB game I watch on TV is sold out so someone is making money. Japan has won the WBC a record three times and that has only increased the popularity of the game here.

I know nothing about monetary policy but is it possible the Japanese govt is secretly keeping the yen weak as its good for inbound tourism and exports and that’s basically all they can do?

Quite frankly it’s embarrassing when you look at Japan these days. All they can do is open the floodgates to a bunch of low level tourists.

What happened here? Was the guy drunk? On drugs? Did he fall asleep? You don’t just plow into a pedestrian crossing for no reason. Too many unanswered questions here.

this is terrible reporting. Ask Questions!!

@Fighto

why do you have to turn everything into a competition? It’s childish. Eventually, overtourism will diminish the quality of life for residents. In my opinion it already has. Try to think beyond material benefits.

This is madness. Japan isn’t like the US or France in terms of land mass. It’s already overcrowded. But the authorities will continue pushing tourism because they don’t have to do anything difficult.

This story fails to mention how often he has been injured or has failed to complete a full season. Scouts have to be a little weary of that.

Japan really hasn't capitalized on the rugby successes of a few years ago. Just seems that all the momentum has gone out of that and the country has returned to its love of baseball thanks in large part to Shohei Ohtani. You hardly ever hear about rugby anymore.

Does footy have no age restrictions? Most other sports do in order to protect minors from all sorts of potential exploitation. Guess the people who run soccer don’t care about that.

Posted in: Japan routs Syria 5-0 in World Cup qualifier See in context

Here is what will happen.

Japan will coast through Asian qualifying and reach the World Cup.

in the World Cup they will pull off one or two surprises in group play.

they advance to round of 16 and then are narrowly defeated in the knockout stage.

everyone talks about how much progress they’ve made

rinse, repeat every four years
