Why? I don't think Akie has read any of the comments made by the shooter or the news reports. Either that or she's really dumb.
The man shot him because he felt that Abe was complicit in letting a nutso quasi-religious group have influence in the govt. (60% of the LDP had admitted to having some kind of relationship with them) and this nutso group was able to brainwash his mother into giving all of her family's money to them.
The shooter was pissed and rightly so.

Posted in: Japan defense forces at record-low 51% of recruitment goal in FY 2023 See in context
The committee is considering measures such as improving wages and working conditions to overcome the recruitment shortfall,
It's become a buyer's market. That's the reality. The solution, not only for the military but also for many companies is to put up more money.
If I were young, I'd consider joining the JSDF, but only if the wages were MUCH HIGHER.
For example, a private in the JSDF only makes about 16,000 yen/month. Plus, if he lives on base, he still has to pay rent.
On the other hand, a US private makes about $2,100/month (31,000 yen) w/ fully subsidized on base housing.
Japan's military has blasted their budgets for insanely expensive military hardware but hasn't budged on funding their soldiers better. You're not going to get many people this way.

In my inaka area, old folks homes are the big employers of many of the people in my town.
The whole rehabilitation and senior care industry is always advertising and looking for more people.
There aren't too many other jobs out here and this is one where the demographics should ensure more business in the years to come.
The govt needs to cut down on ODA and funnel more money into childcare, education and retirement homes. Take care of your own house. People are getting more desperate.

The main thing Japan has lacked to help pull it out of recession for the last 24 years has been a lack of domestic demand.
This shows that the core problem has not been solved regardless of the record high stock prices being reached this week.

But you give them this incredibly difficult Japanese and kanji exam and boot them back to their countries if they can't pass it within three years.
Instead, this govt. keeps playing around with expensive robots and machines instead of investing in people.

Dog shoes and sweaters are things I would never put on my dog. They like to feel things, just like people do as long as it doesn't hurt.
Walk your dog in the cool mornings or evenings on ground that isn't boiling hot. Let your dog cool itself in summer and keep warm naturally in the winter. They don't like clothes. I know, cuz I was a dog in my past life.

"Around 2,500 ACs have been ordered," he told journalists during a media visit to the complex in a suburb north of Paris.
The accommodation complex comprises 7,000 rooms in total, with the geothermal cooling system guaranteeing temperatures inside at least 6 degrees Celsius (11 Fahrenheit) below those outside.
Well so much for the eco-friendly Games, which every prospective city spouts off about before selection.
6 degrees C isn't much relief if the temps reach 38-36 degrees.
Well, this is what happens when you're forced to hold the Games at the end of July. The IOC and NBC should take a class on common sense and the detriment of greed.

Posted in: 'Seven Samurai' at 70: Kurosawa's epic still moves like nothing else See in context
I agree with the above posters that many people in Japan, even the elderly, have no idea how much reverence and adulation there is for Kurosawa and Mifune.
I was working in Japan when Mifune died in '97 and when I went to work, I excitedly mentioned the "big" news. Most of my colleagues, including the elderly ones, just said, "Oh, yeah I remember him. I've seen a movie or two of his," and without much feeling of shock that one of their biggest stars ever had passed on.
The exact same thing happened a year later when Kurosawa had died, I thought my colleagues would be much more reactive to his death than Mifune's but it wasn't. It was pretty much a, "Oh, really?"
This is when I realized there was a massive difference in perception of these two greats between the rest of the world and Japan. It sometimes feels that Takashi Shimura even gets more attention that the previous two - whom I also think was great.
