Between 2014 and the end of 2022, the Chinese government said it had spent more than 200 billion yuan ($28 billion) on subsidies and tax breaks for EV purchases alone.
...and you believe the CCP.???
https://www.cnbc.com/2024/06/21/china-spent-230-billion-to-build-its-electric-car-industry-csis-says.html
Seriously, this^^, is what can be found. It's more likely much more than $230 billions.
The CCP has buggered up what ever it touches in China, do you want to let them bugger up auto in your country? This is mass market distortion, done at wholesale level, politically driven, and an end game of destruction.
Keep them out!!!
Look at how many Chinese EV companies has gone broke, look at Chinese property, Chinese equities, fintech....all buggered!!!

I think you're confusing savings in bank vs hoards under the mattress or stashed offshore where interest is much higher. Survey conducted in Japan would also be rather biased as most Japanese don't like to flout wealth. Then there's the intergenerational wealth transfer....
My wife and I spend time in France for special occasions, we go to Marseille, Lyon, etc. but rarely Paris because it's expensive but when we do go to Paris, we see a lot of young Japanese enjoying the haute life in Paris.

A buoy ...is not anything sacred. ?
...yeah, but take those blinkers off, look at the whole picture. IMHO, Japan has to be prepared for what is to come out of these small insignificant events.
When considering China equities has never recovered from 2015-2016 bubble burst, local government debt skyhigh, demographics catastrophy, property sector dead, mass youth unemployment, misallocation of capital upsetting powerful lobbies, and YET, the CCP is dedicating focus on intangible geopolitical point scoring against Japan, Taiwan, Philippines, Oceania....what is this saying? They're trying to create an environment for war.
On top of all this, they are sending ex-PLA mercenaries to Russia for the Ukraine war, AND they have threatened them with joblessness if they come home too soon.

Yeah, they kind of do (have surplus)
Don't you mean they actually, definitely, resoundingly do? Japan top the list of US treasury holding @$1.15 trillion, that's $9,200 per man, woman, child (for a total population of 125 millions). This is just for US treasuries, when you include Japanese treasuries, corporate bonds....it's much more rosy. Japanese are swimming in a sea of savings.
Education??? Mitsui was shouting from the roof top they are paying 5.3% interest for 12 months term deposit on USD denominated accounts last year. People who took it on would have got 11% returns currently given the weak yen.
My only concern is stocks are getting too expensive because of foreign pile on, and the leveraged stock portfolio will be priced out. IMHO, Japan goldilocks investing ciuld be a thing of the past...sooner rather than later, already Tokyo property value is out pacing income.

It was not very peaceful when the Ukrainians chased the ethnic Russians into the building and burned them alive in Odessa.
Ukrainian and Russian ethnics were living relatively peacefully before Putin sent in his stooges. How do you know it wasn't Ukrainian defending themselves against Russian backed agitators?
The evidence says almost always, it was pro Putin militants who caused all the unrest in Eastern Ukraine.

Peace in Ukraine will not come until the US military-industrial complex has mastered the entire budget allocated by the US Congress to support Ukraine
The US military or its assets doesn't need to be involved at all. Europe just has to stop given Putin money, and I mean litterally, every economic ties from Europe, whether minerals, energy, grains...goes straight to oligarch, and onto Putin. This is documented by so many people, including European. Putin fears loosing his personal wealth and control.
Unfortunately, we have from Macron, to Merkel ... all denying the Putin threat, even now Macron is still saying Putin is a friend, and Merkel is still not repentant. This is why this conflict will continue.

Based on what? He invaded Georgia, Crimea, threatened Eastern European states, calls all of his invasions 'special operations'. Even if you could believe what he says, his actions still betrays.
Then there's the involvement of Belarus and the attacks on western Ukraine....it just goes on and on. You only need to look at Russian's economic tentacles to see Putin's true ambition.

What's wrong with deflation?
Nothing wrong under certain settings. I actually think the decades long deflation was a good reset for Japan, and it improved the lives of the average Japanese A LOT. High standard of living, low cost of living, secure jobs etc., though it can't last forever.
Right now, Japan at the trough of a 3 decades long investment cycle and Japan has to emerge from it. Deflation delays consumption, ie why buy now when I can buy cheaper later, without consumption it's not a purring economy that utilises capital to invest to better lives of citizens.

I'm totally on board with the BoJ, there has to be evidence of sustainable inflation before major move. Else, Japan risks a return to deflation and doldrum. The market (ie Japanese corporates flush with cash) will decide when to return capital to Japan anyway, they won't if they think Japan is going to return to deflation.

Posted in: Japan has no plans to seek suspension of Osprey flights despite restrictions in U.S. See in context
It is evident Japan maintains and flies the Osprey aircraft in a safe manner. The US could learn how to fly, operate and maintain the Osprey fleet safely from Japan.
Perhaps there's an element of truth in this^^^, because there's been report of US Osprey being allowed to fly longer than scheduled maintenance period due to a lack of parts (mainly the sprag clutch).
But, at the end of the day, the gearbox and sprag clutch used in the V-22 does experience alot more torque and surface velocity pressures than your standard helicopter sprag clutch, and on top of this a helicopter sprag clutch operates mostly in one direction whilst in the V-22 it rotates up to 90 degress, AND there's double the risk since as there's one on each side of the plane. It is a lot more susceptible to failing.
At the end of the day, they know the problem, AND they are saying it (the sprag clutch) won't be fixed until 2025, AND the brain behind the original sprag clutch design being Ted Zlotek has passed,
so IMHO, either Japan has to have a higher quality (more regular) maintenance schedule, or Japan does not operate it in as an extreme environment as the US does.
Then there's the Boeing outsourcing issue which we can see is a huge issue since the Alaska door plug fell off. Boeing/Spirit, in this case Boeing/Bell.
