So New Zealand, who was trying so hard to take a soft , trade based approach to relations with China, has made it all up? Lying to the world? Use your own judgement on that one.
You may find that the complete opposite of every word of this statement is actually true.

Today, the UK has accused China of hacking UK citizens and setting up fake accounts for people like human rights lawyers.
Coulda been
It is an industry in Pandaland.

They should have added "We also lie habitually, so you can totally ignore what we've just said."
Countries have taken far, far too long to address the huge threat that China undoubtedly is, but now that it's becoming dangerously aggressive under Xi, and other countries (India, Vietnam etc.) are steadily taking the manufacturing role it once held, they're finally doing something about it.
The UK is a good illustration. From the "Golden Age" of relations, to MPs clamoring to designate China an official "threat," within less than 10 years. Xi is toxic, and has failed spectacularly.

Being nice to China has not worked; it's long past time to cut the country out of the international loop, as we do with North Korea.

If they think they did, they probably did

This statement sums up the quagmire that New Zealand is in. Mr Peters isn't even a member of the ruling party but somehow manages to negotiate his way into a crucial ministerial portfolio that being the foreign ministry.
This event is falls under his responsibility and all he can do is 'urge'. Can you imagine Donald Trump urging China not to send spy balloon over USA?
Now as for Mr Peters, he has been on the same parliament for years allowing lobbyists unfettered access to parliamentary offices in New Zealand for years, decades even. That's right CCP and CCP friendly lobbyist has automatic, walkin, access to ministers, but constituent don't.

Do you think this unfettered access will end?

Don't think so.

China fails to have people that can go on to be innovative, so their only strategy to keep up with the world is to steal and copy everyone else. Totally shameless.
Boycott China.

And getting worse. Mother-in-law is using her PC and suddenly gets a flashing warning message when browsing a website saying her PC is at risk for attack. Looked exactly like a MS warning with logo and all. Before I can tell her not to, wife calls the number and some guy in a heavy Chinese accent answers the phone and says, 'Hai. Nan desu ka?' I tell my wife to hang up cause yeah....MS always answer the phone that way.
Yesterday, I got a call and it's a recorded message from the.....'Chinese Embassy' LOL!
Sadly most of the victims are elderly Japanese. Chinese scammers are a plague.

Comedy good. They really should start a comedy tour.
the CCP led PRC, couldn’t innovate a belch, so they have to steal technology.

New Zealand needs to take cybersecurity serious and invest in the best software. They have been warned.

What is it with the sneaky Chinese and their obsession with total surveillance / spying activities ??
The rest of the free democratic countries of the world need to step-up with their very best and brightest scientists and technologists to counter the menace that is China - they can only be defeated by playing them at their own stupid games.
I've avoided buying anything stamped with 'Made in China' for years now, and always encourage others to do the same.

Some day Xi will pass from the scene. I hope and pray that the new Chinese leadership is more friendly to the world at large. In the mean time, Xi is ruining his legacy.

If NZ said China did it then China did it, no questions ask the cock roaches are everywhere creating enemies even in peaceful countries. They smile and give you money by way of creating a infrastructure in a country knowing the poor country leaders will fooled while taking bribes and later crying foul when the loan payments become due and the country can't make the payments. The end result China owning the country and creating a political infrastructure to their liking. Ask the African country they fooled that are now crying foul.

Sorry, but at this point if you're getting hacked, it's your fault. Yeah, China's doing the hacking, or someone else. But you're letting it happen one way or another.

Not only hacking, but they're also employing former defence staff from other nations to train their own.

We have a very weak tri-party government right now.
All three, the Prime Minister + two co-leaders operate as individuals instead of a co-allition.
Government Ministers with zero knowledge of their Port- Folioes, flounder and run away at question time.
Too scared to stand up to Mainland China, too scared to strongly condemn.
Wimpish responses, then run and hide.

No surprise. In 2016 they tried to hack secrets from a textile factory in New England to no avail, while Russia was scanning the US electoral college as a trial for the Trumpian overthrow in November.
China hasn't been as successful in hacking like Russia has, but they're trying.

Many people do not have the skills or experience to prevent the hackers.

They hack different things - mostly companies related to innovative tech and military. Https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-68659095 - UK and US have been constantly under attack for decades by China. They hacked Nortel in Canada too - which is why Huawei exists today.
They also hack Chinese dissidents and anyone showing the truth about the CCP - even facts. The CCP hates the new Amazon movie "3-Body Problem" because it depicts the CCP being ruthless AND shows them as they were based on eye witnesses who were there.
