Butt he could've ended up seeing the buttocks of a 58-year-old woman and get bummed out.

These women are heroines. To go from high school to saving lives at the front lines of one of the bloodiest battles of the war is probably inconceivable to most. Their courage and sacrifice is to be applauded by all. I will visit this place on my next trip to Okinawa. I don't know how I've missed it all the times I've been there.

tigerjaneJune 14 10:28 pm JST

I was sending packages overseas on a regular basis that is until they made it impossible with their online crap and so I stopped. The post office nailed their coffin shut with my money when they did that and following that I used to pay my bills at the counter and paid their little fees and now I pay my bills at the 711.

Generally, I like JP but I agree. I used to pay their exorbitant fee for money orders because, even with the loads of unnecessary paperwork, it was fairly convenient. They hiked the price to 5000 yen (robbery without a weapon) per and I jumped ship to PayPal. They are a dinosaur in need of a serious rethinking and overhaul. Not gonna happen, though. Oh well. They may not go the way of the dodo but they are going to lose business, especially with how many choices customers have these days.

Those danged foreigners again. I can't tell how many times I've been in a store in Japan and customers are still walking around, shopping, etc, oblivious to the music and closing time. I don't go to Daiso but I bet it wasn't a problem when Japanese did it, and, yes, they did do that.

If it were not the Chinese buying it up, almost no one would care. Mostly about the bias against them as you can see by the tone of the article.

In the past I've been to a few but I find these places mostly depressing and reeking of loneliness. Unless, of course, you're with all your friends at the time

I went to some of these in the late '90s and early 2000s and I have to echo your sentiments. They were quite depressing and boring. Lots of bad karaoke and average food and alcohol.

Like what? Name one big city where people don't get killed. We don't even know the full story as most of the pertinent information was not included.

Yeah, because no one ever gets killed in "first world" Japan. Check your history. The "first world" and old world have been responsible for way more murders of other people than vice versa.

Doling out and withholding invites as if it were an Oscars or red carpet event? It's not about the victims anymore now, is it? It's about how the mayor feels.

Darn. What's Israel going to do now? Keep on keeping on, that's what! I'm sure no sleep will be lost. Nagasaki is getting quite full of itself and needs to remember that Japan got peace forced onto it.

The Panthers do have a great goalie but I hope the Oilers hoist the Cup and McDavid can really start to cement that legacy and put his name kind of close to The Great One. It would also really energize (most of) Canada after such a long drought.

Posted in: Japan ranked worst country in world for helping strangers See in context

> BertieWoosterJune 3 05:33 pm JST

As one person already pointed out, the concept of service is very high in Japan, especially compared with many other countries I've visited. There is less need to get help from a stranger. When you rent a car, someone takes you to the car, goes over ALL the controls with how to turn on the A/C, etc. When I rented a car in the States, the girl gave me a key and pointed to a car, "That one!" Store staff will take time to help you find what they need. Drop a wallet and it's sure to come back to you - intact! As far as I can see the famous Japanese service isn't only for gaijins, it's the same for naijins too! I stand by what I've said. I've met a lot of very kind and helpful people in Japan.

I've never had that happen to me and I've rented cars in America at least 25 times in the past few decades. I think you are and have always been, anti-American and your posts show it. America is a place where we expect people to not need to be led by the nose. The staff at some places tell to go out the door to your right, etc and expect you to understand. Japan has over- service which takes time. You don't need to ask 5 questions, I can just tell you: I want a large latte to go. No need for all the questions. That is America. Service quickly without the phony fluff.

Posted in: Japan ranked worst country in world for helping strangers See in context

Jamaica nice but people will just point to a crime RATE and say it's impossible for the survey to be correct, especially with so many African countries on it, too. I've found the hospitality of people in poorer countries to be way better than that of people in rich ones. People attach niceness and charity to wealth and privilege.

Bitcoin is a bit too easy to get to, if you ask me.

Obviously, you had a tough time understanding the lead up to and gist of the comment. I didn't say it was easy for me and I don't particularly care to be honest.

Back in the old days, crooks had to assemble a crack team of specialists, spend weeks planning, use physical tools, hire getaway drivers, evade cops and get to a hideout. Nowadays, it seems like a computer and some skills are all you need. Bitcoin is a bit too easy to get to, if you ask me.

I'm so glad I don't miss these over-sweetened diabetes-inducing drinks. Being in Japan has totally changed my palate. I've probably had 3 sweetened carbonated drinks in the past 5 years. Give me green or black tea and unsweetened carbonated water all day every day.
