As others have said, it's rather telling that this was done by a Chinese person living in Japan. He's clearly annoyed at Japan, but chooses to live here anyway? Seems a bit hypocritical.

Can't improve safety in this way. People need to learn how to drive, and be stopped from driving when they can no longer do so safely.
This "feature" won't even work properly anyway. Just build good autonomous cars and make the aging population 'drive' those.

The kids noticed the problem, but the teachers didn't.
Every employee involved in any stage of this, should be terminated immediately without severance package. This is disgusting.
The parents trust the teaching staff to look after and educate their children, but in this instance, they killed one instead. And yes, killed. They are completely at fault here.

@Banthu
As per actualy science, humans are either XX or XY, thus they are binary.
Anything else, is a rare and exceptional deformaty, and would be classified as such by secular and objective scientist.
True actual science doesn't care about politics or trends
Actual science disagrees with you, while rare, there are other combinations than those two. Does your Google not work?

what a great use of tax-payer funds. The shrine owner should have been arrested for wasting police time. Calling the cops for a "theft" of less than a dollar? Insanity.

Posted in: Apple to allow iPhones to function as My Number cards See in context
Easier? Well, it would be difficult to make using these things any harder.
The whole system is badly thought out. The cards have a printed expiration date on them, and when that passes, you go to the ward office and they stamp the front with a new date using a rubber ink stamp.
Then, when you use it on line, and something asks for the expiration date of the card, you have to type in the old one printed on the card, not the real one stamped on. So you have to enter an expiration date that is already in the past. Crazy.
If they implement this correctly into Apple Wallet like they do for some US driving licenses, then I welcome the improvement. If they do it the Japanese way, with some BS custom App that comes with advertisements and constant popups, then yeah - nah.

Sure. That doesn't mean that in 100% of accidents between cyclists and pedestrians, cyclists are 100% to blame.
It does if the pedestrian is walking on the SIDEWALK, and the vehicle is not using the ROAD.
Vehicles have no place on a pedestrian walking area.

The the cops actually enforced this in my area, they'd probably make over a million yen per day.
No-one stops at red lights, though bikes on the road are rare; they're all on the sidewalk. Most using a phone at the same time, going too fast and expecting people to move out of their way.

Is this article saying 1,000,000 yen per machine to so a software upgrade for the new notes? That seems wildly excessive. I've worked with coin acceptors and not acceptors, and having them updated to support new coins/notes cost closer to 5,000 yen per device, and that included shipping the device to have the upgrade done.

It's not even implemented the way they say it is. I purchased an Apple product years ago when traveling to Japan, didn't pay the tax on it, used it in Japan and on the plane home. At no point in the travel was I asked about it. There was a receipt stapled in the passport and I carefully watched as it was ignored by everyone I showed the passport to.

Another example of "the people in charge" not having the slightest clue what they're talking about.
For iPhone at least, logging out of the apple account is really not simple, quick or easy. Then, when the child loses the phone, there's no tracking available! Just don't give your kids your phone, ever.

Mr Kipling:
And the expense for this will be passed on to the rest of us.
That's true of everything. You know that nice Ward Office you go to occasionally for paperwork, you pay for the staff salary; and the building; and the electricity to power the lighting. Same for the lights that keep the streets safe, and the trucks that take away the garbage... everything is paid for by taxes.
I can't even fathom what happens in your head that makes you think your comment is valid in any way.
