Man arrested for leaving father’s body in house, says he wanted to keep receiving his dad’s pension

Police in Kujukuri town, Chiba Prefecture, have arrested a 64-year-old man on suspicion of failing to report the death of his father and fraud for continuing to receive his father’s pension.

Police found the remains of an elderly man at the house of Hideo Horiguchi, 64, on Thursday afternoon, TV Asahi reported. Police had gone to the house after a relative contacted them to say he hadn’t heard from Horiguchi or his father for nearly two years.

Horiguchi and his father, who was in his 80s, lived alone. Police said Horiguchi told them that if he reported his father’s death, he would no longer receive his pension.

Police said Horiguchi left his father’s body unattended for two years.

Couldn't imagine the smell of that house during that time.

I only read about this in Japan,

I know my post will be removed but this is a fact that Japan can't deny.

If you do this somewhere else the shame and the fear of guilt will cause you not to do it.

People who do these acts are people of no Morals and Faith.

For the pension his father paid into for his working life when he dies doesn’t the remainder go to his estate? If it’s forfeited it seems wrong. It’s his money to pass on. That said I have heard that Japanese government takes 50% of someone’s wealth when they die which is insane. Anyone know if either of these things are true? It is very sad this man didn’t receive a proper burial. I hope now he can.

Sakurasuki above...agree...but imagine the bargain that house would now sell for.

Seriously though, I often check real estate sites in my region and one particular site has a "ghost like figure " above any sales where a death has occurred in the house.

People die...get over it....thats what I tell my Mother in Law daily.

"Police said Horiguchi left his father’s body unattended for two year"

Sweet lord! I cannot imagine this, on a number of levels. Sadly, this kind of morally bankrupt idiot is only one of many and you hear about this thing far too often in Japan.

Of course

There in Brazil it is necessary for all who receive retirement pension to make a proof of life due to frauds, there is an app for this.

At least someone was concerned enough about their well being to ask the Police for help.

Seems almost every month or so you hear about a case like this. Makes you wonder how many cases have gone unnoticed for years. Even when a relative or friend starts questioning the whereabouts of an elder, it wouldn't neccessarily mean the police are called if the son or daughter just says they died and makes up a story. Living with a corpse though, that would be the difficult part.

At least he was honest, unlike all those who claim "I didn't know what to do with the body".
