Japan needs more data specialists and that is the bottom line.

Posted in: Elementary school boy drowns during swimming class in western Japan See in context

Teachers in the west work under the idea of locus parentis.

I wonder if this is the case in Japan?

I am sure that there is a degree of responsibility expected but in this case there doesn’t seem to have been any given.

Still, beach season is here and many parents will be taking their kids to the sea and just like in this pool, there will be drownings due to parents not recognising the danger of allowing their children to play without supervision.

The dangers of heatstroke are well reinforced in Japan but unfortunately death by water is not.

The momentum will only accelerate!

UK politicians, just as their counterparts in Japan need to focus on their own domestic problems before looking outside their own borders

That Labour has gotten in and in the short term, there won’t be any major cock ups (hopefully) so theUK pound will shine a bit brighter.

@Old Sausage

Your post is a nice summary of the state of affairs.

I would propose that Japanese society goes through a type of brainwashing with regard to rules. Who makes them and why they exist is very much secondary to the idea that they have to be followed even though commonsense blatantly dictates otherwise.

And as for lack of communication?

Well, a book could be written on that…

I’m sure this happens a lot in Japan.

I’ve seen this type of deviant behavior and actually reported it to station staff.

Posted in: Japan nursing care bankruptcies hit record high for Jan.-June period See in context

The number of infirm and elderly are rising yet businesses are failing?

So, what happens to the elderly not placed in a nursing home or receiving care at home?

It is hospitals that are receiving more and more elderly patients that are unable to look after themselves.

What happens to patients which receive basic care and are able to be discharged?

Their families are reluctant to accept them back home and care homes are full to the rafters.

There should be help for family members taking on the financial burden of caring for the elderly.

The government needs to lift its spending on the aged in Japan to take account of rising numbers.

It was obvious several weeks ago that there would be a massive party change.

The only hope now is for Reform to be able to provide a credible pushback in opposition to Labour’s lack of direction in the future.

It’s been obvious that the US President is mentally unfit.

All types of excuses have been floated by Jean-Pierre as to why there should be no cognitive test given.

It seems that we live in a fictional world where ‘not being fit for the job’ is just dandy.

Posted in: Kishida to visit U.S., Germany for summit talks next week See in context

Sometime today, the yen would have sunk to 162 to the dollar and the cost of a drink in a bar to a car tire will be on the rise for the ordinary Japanese person to rail against.

Meanwhile, Fumio Kishida’s planes (2) will have their aviation fuel ordered, on board provisions tallied and pilots’ rosters decided.

The reason is to attend a NATO meeting, of which Japan is not a member, halfway away, on the other side of the world.

What will be Japan’s contribution?

It is truly suspect.

This article is all over the place!

How can the ‘business mood’ be up if the yen is diving into a bottomless pit, inflation keeps rising, consumers aren’t buying and GDP is falling?

Also, when do potential Japanese auto buyers regain faith in companies that produce fake data regarding their products?

What is there to cheer about?

"We... call on local authorities to release him immediately," Hayashi said.

Can I believe my ears here?

Any foreigner accused of such a heinous crime in Japan would be in detention for several weeks whilst the NPA leisurely investigated.

Yoshimasa Hayashi should seek to avail himself of how such matters are conducted in Japan before demanding such liberal treatment from a foreign government.

If the NPA revised speed limits up to take account of more car safety features and reduced the number of traffic lights then most roads would be safer.

In this rare anomalous accident the doctor clearly was abusing the law by driving at excessive speed.

Posted in: Prices have been raised or are set to be raised for 10,086 food and beverage products in Japan this year, with the cumulative annual total topping 10,000 for the third consecutive year. See in context

Food prices are largely linked to the price of oil which is increasing.

Government policies, in certain countries such as the US have led to price increases in fossil fuels well outside US borders also.

The religious like zeal for net zero in many countries is also pushing prices higher.

Price increases are without doubt, man made…
