I suppose Italy is a "theocracy " 'cause , you know, the Pope and all that .
The Pope lives in a separate state - Vatican City. I suppose you could call that a theocracy. The Pope has no direct influence on important policy decisions in Italy as far as I’m aware - a good thing.
On the other hand, crackpot Ayatollahs in Iran basically run the show.

The poor guy can barely survive a whole sentence, let alone a presidential race
Can you imagine what Biden and Trump will be like in 4 years time?
I doubt they could remember to pull down their zips before having a burst.

He’s inherited a mess. Judge him and his party on how they deal with that mess.
No quick solutions are possible to most of these problems.
Best of luck to them.

Look back at what the left wing controlled corporate media assured us last month
Which media?
I think you are projecting and getting a bit agitated again.
You may swallow and be ‘assured’ by your media, but not everyone is as gullible.
What media do you follow by the way if you don’t mind me asking?

@albaleo
Cheers.
With you on the FFP system. I‘ll be honest and say I’m glad Labour picked up seats in Scotland to help rout the Tories but a massive majority on less than 40% of the vote?
It is a bit ridiculous.

I've read that Labour got fewer votes overall than in the 2019 election. I'm guessing that's due to a lower turnout which probably suggests a general unhappiness among the population.
I’d agree with that.
Why do you think the SNP vote collapsed?

Reform pulled more than disaffected Tories to his ranks. It went from zero to surprisingly large numbers of votes in a matter of weeks, and won seats
Farage’s party/company ended up with the same number of seats as the Greens.
Farage jumped in because he saw the Tories were on the ropes. Not sure how sustainable that vote is.
If Labour activists replace Starmer with Kahn
Is this a realistic scenario with Starmer having just led Labour to a massive majority?
He’s standing on pretty safe ground at the moment. I’m not sure how radical the new intake is, but I doubt they’ll be too restive early on.

Surprised they got 4. I was thinking 2 - Farage and Labour/Conservative/Reform 30p Lee.

Fully agree.
On the other side, you get people getting triggered over wokeness and LGBT characters in films.
Waste of space.
Labour have a mandate. Judge them on what they deliver, not the manifesto.
I’ll be among the first to rip into them if they fail on poverty.

It’s all down to identify politics, virtue signalling, immigration policies etc
Erm…okay
The main issue of poverty and the need for food banks for millions is a side issue and should be the main one
Yes. Those bleating about wokeness and virtue signaling should be looking at issues like this instead of being sidetracked by idiots and grifters on YouTube.
The austerity imposed by the right was rank.
Let’s see if Labour can improve this.

The two crazies, Braverman and Badenoch, have got through and will probably be up for next leader.
Braverman keeping the up the rage against tofu-eaters and dreaming about deporting people in the next parliament.
Still remember that description of her as what happens if you feed Pritti Patel after midnight. Up there with ‘Something of the night about him’ describing Michael Howard or ‘lactose on intolerant’ when Farage got milkshaked.

The new BBC prediction for Reform is 4, which is less than a third of 13. Only wrong by a factor of three. How do people get these jobs?
Pretty poor.
Also looks like the margin of Labour victory will be less than the exit poll suggested.
Revised down to 160-seat majority.

Are you saying roughly 40% of voters should vote centre-left as it looks like they they did in the UK
Should’ve added the LibDem and Green vote to that - both manifestos further left than Labour.
To rephrase:
Are you saying over 50% of voters should vote centre-left or left..
Sorry for the inaccuracy.

If these exit polls are right, it’s not quite as bad as some polls were predicting for the Tories. They will still have enough MPs to form a credible opposition in terms of numbers although they haven’t been credible as a party for quite a while.
A well deserved hiding.
A few drinks in order.

Where,do you read,Stormer,bing drinking and took,cocan?
By the way, as you have an interest in Canadian politics, some are making comparisons with what happened to the Conservatives in Canada in 1993. Do you think there’s anything in this comparison?
They abdicated the country long ago
Eh? Who abdicated what?
To be endorsed and anointed by the UK's gutter press, especially the malicious and viciously toxic Sun of Murdoch is just one more disgrace Starmer can chalk up for himself to add to his vile public record as a lawyer. Liverpudlians, quite rightly, wouldn't be seen dead with that rag in their hands - and they won't be fooled by Starmer and his right-wing cabal either
The Sun is trash - even lower than the Daily Mail. Who cares who that garbage endorses.
I’m a Liverpudlian. I don’t know if ‘fooled’ by Starmer is the right word. Starmer’s Labour Party will take every seat in Liverpool.
Better than the alternatives is the way the Liverpudlians I know see him and his party.
What he will deliver if elected remains to be seen.

Indeed. In the US, they have the expression Republican In Name Only (RINO). Blair and his New Labour got the title Conservatives Under New Terminology, or something like that.
