Japan has the widest gender gap among developed countries, ranking 73rd among 190 economies in a World Bank report released on March 4.

Japanese women enjoy only 72.5 percent of the legal rights and protections that Japanese men do, according to the annual Women, Business and the Law 2024 report published ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8.

The Fukushima district court sentenced Shutaro Shibuya, Akito Sekine and Yusuke Kimezawa to two years in prison, suspended for four years, for “forced indecency” against Rina Gonoi during a military drill in 2021

Article should be posting all the abusers/criminals photos with names, not the victim's.

Good for her!!!!!! She deserves every yen & probably 10x more than she received.

Japan is a land of mysogyny and sexual predators. Nothing will change until they are regularly charged, arrested, prosecuted and punished for their abuse and crimes.

I'm happy for her and hope more women in Japan are as brave as her!

Posted in: Japan corporate bankruptcies hit 10-yr-high amid labor shortage See in context

Companies and small businesses can't pay the skyrocketing elctric & gas prices.

Everything in general costs 20-40% more than just two to three years ago.

It has nothing to do with a labor shortage.

And the whole the LDP does absolutely nothing to promote or implement renewable energy solutions.

They still overwork and under pay as a general practice. Wage theft is still rampant in Japan even tho there are laws against most of these practices.

Posted in: Here are the big hurdles to the global push to build up renewable energy See in context

Lol. I bought a couple solar panels, a small wind turbine and a couple home batteries off Amazon last June.

This simple, basic system has paid for itself in only a year by reducing my monthly electricity/gas costs 20-50% a month since I bought them. Typically I save about 35% every month.

It's not hard or complicated. I don't care what the gov does pushes or advocates, I bought them to save money for MYSELF!!!

Posted in: New national standards for Japanese-language schools to start April See in context

I don’t think it’s possible to learn business or academic Japanese from anime any more than one can learn martial arts from a book.

Nobody mentions anything about 'business or academic Japanese'. ??

I tend to think the majority of the students attending these 'certified Japanese schools' are students/immigrants that end up working in convenience stores, restaurants, construction.

Posted in: New national standards for Japanese-language schools to start April See in context

This is funny because the majority of people learning Japanese these days learn from anime and YouTube.

Hilarious that the gov wants to make it sooo difficult to learn or even teach Japanese while there is almost ZERO oversight on native Japanese masquerading as English teachers and so called English schools as a whole.

So ironic.

Most companies here treat IT workers the same as cleaning staff. No respect or consideration for the work we do, none.

Question is: where are the backup generators located???? Plant operators were advised the design of the Fukushima plant was outdated and not ideal, but they did nothing to mitigate the design flaws. They did not move the generators even after being advised to do so several years before.

Too many old people shouldn't be driving around the country.

It's too difficult for young people to get licenses but super easy for elderly to keep them.

Most in 80s & 90s have no business driving .

If the bases were to pull out, how would the Okinawans support themselves?

This just isn't true. Returned land is always developed as soon as it returned and the economy grows improves in those areas.

IMO Okinawa should be designated a unaccompanied duty station with no spouses or dependas allowed. That would be a great start to reducing the impact on Okinawans.

Any man that abuses/assaults a woman, child, or senior is scum. Doesn't matter where he's from, what language he speaks or god he worships.
