A record high 3,575 applications were filed for workers' compensation coverage related to mental disorders, marking an increase of 892 from the previous year, with 34.2 percent of them deemed eligible.

So nearly 66% of workers' compensation claims related to mental disorders were apparently denied. I am curious to know more about those claims and the reasons for denying them.

I do not doubt this at all. I knew a guy from Bangladesh and he worked at Family Mart. The staff treated him like a slave. I had a Japanese friend that worked at a factory. She quit because management would not do anything about the old women that worked there and were bullying her. She complained to management and they told her to learn how to grow thicker skin.

Japanese work culture, they should put that into UNESCO heritage list.

NOT SURPRISED AT ALL, people are worked to death.

But hey, people are going to flock to come and work and live here to bail out the nation.

Mention the lack of mental health in Japan and watch the downvotes rise lol!

I call BS on the official figure since I know of at least 10 in my circle of acquaintances. I bet a three to four zeros have been shaved off just to save face.

Just 883 or so a working population of 70 million of so, and with it well known that Japanese are often worked go death and have obscenely long work hours (also downplayed by the government).

Were not idiots.

This is the country that invented a whole word to describe death by overworking because it's that prevalent in their society. So the fact they're seeing record work induced mental health issues is completely unsurprising, especially since the work culture doesn't seem to be changing anytime soon.

Suck it up and do 10-15 years of hard work for low pay learn a skill build contacts then work for yourself

Life is easy but you've got to suffer first

Those "official" numbers are at least 3 zeros (0) off. Most of Japan working force, salary men, and the rest of drones, have 1 form or another of depression. The overtime culture needs to die, also taking bullying and sexual abuses from your bosses.

Dentsu is notorious for probably the worst working environment in the world.

I have seen a lot of improvements over the past 20 years in the Japanese corporate culture,

Many cases seem to be in those small scale shops, companies and the social welfare and health sector.

The article mentions harassment as a leading cause, so rather than the working culture, it is the personality of some, the human factor which is the cause

But hey, people are going to flock to come and work and live here to bail out the nation.

.

Exactly!

I sincerely doubt it too.

Unless foreign workers are better protected and offered paths to citizenship then it won’t ever become a reality.
