We will be heading back to deflation once the war in Ukraine is over. China is already flooding the world with cheap EVs.

Strange how inflation is reported as falling, but prices are still rising.......
Mr Kipling
Stripping out both items that make a real difference in prices for ordinary people.
Paledon...
Inflation rate is falling so prices are going up at a lower rate.

Strange how inflation is reported as falling, but prices are still rising.......
Right...and J-Inc will now have an excuse to reduce any future union pay rise requests.

Who writes this tosh? "Sure, you can't afford to feed your kids, but think of the bargain it is for foreign tourists!" And they make it sound like things you be fine if you don't buy imported items or travel overseas - ignoring the elephant in the room that the weak yen makes virtually everything more expensive.
But, of course, some people profit from even the worst economic conditions. A total economic collapse would surely create a handful of millionaires. That hardly balances things out.

Mr Kipling is correct, no mention of the word "falling", only slowing. Prices still increasing but only at a slower rate compared to before. i.e. there is still inflation. If prices are to fall it would require deflation which also not good. However what normally drive prices down is competition to sell goods or services.
I lived in Japan 20 years ago and still visit annually. The cost to ride my local JR or to buy a loaf of bread has not changed much if at all! Consider yourself lucky you are not in the UK!

Electricity rates going up 46% yes , 46% in June for Kansai and Kyushu.
tell me more about the 2.2% nonsense

“Slowing”? You could fool me.

Broccoli was up 80% from last week at my local supermarket yesterday.

The pace of Japanese inflation slowed in April to 2.2 percent as gas bills fell,
Lets add just a bit of honesty to this story.!. Japan does NOT include the prices of fuel and food in their GDP / CPI! If they did , the actual rate of inflation would be well over 20%. Literally everything we buy at the grocery store has gone up dramatically or the quantity has been reduced for the same price ! The jgov has been subsidizing fuel prices (car and home) for 4 years ! It has NOT been passed on to us consumers! It is corporate greed/ welfare at its worst!

Really? This is the first I've heard this, and while it's not implausible, this is the internet... got a link?

The world price of commodities that Japan imports a lot of like oil, gas, course grains, oilseeds and wheat have stabilized and the demand/supply situation is nicely balanced. Although flooding in Brazil has impacted agricultural production, the drought has broken in North America just as crops are being planted. The risk of a shortage and increase in the world price of the above commodities is very low. There is more downward price risk for commodity exporters than importers.
The only problem is the falling value of the yen.

They have a CPI that includes everything. Then they have a core CPI which is CPI - energy price. And also core core which is CPI - energy - fresh food.
all countries also calculate various measures of inflation. If you want to see the whole picture just look at the CPI. The reason to calculate cord and core is that energy and fresh food price change very quickly. Vegetables price like spinach, cabbage, lettuce… can vary a lot from one week to another (due to weather…etc). . So it make sense to show one measure of CPI that excludes it.

Inflation slowing down… lol ! That’s the most idiotic thing I’ve heard this year considering the prices of everything has gone up sharply and the wages have not increased at all! Not to mention the value of the yen is super weak!

2.2% a month? With salaries going up 5% for the year. One step forward 2 steps back.

Japan has a long way to go before inflation is tamed.
Reliant on food imports and imported fuel and the weak yen is FORECAST to become weaker in the years ahead not stronger.
Also, the much crowed about tourism boom is not about the low income tourists making a huge difference either.

Japan has been subsidizing borrowers with low interest rates for decades. If you have a house loan you have enjoyed a great government subsidy with the low rate at the expense of savers. I think the the tide is finally changing.

Fresh produce, especially broccoli, has always been that way. A week of unfavorable weather in the growing region and prices shoot up. Some great weather, and they shoot down again. Not really a good indicator of inflation.

@Maccarthy
That's known as "core inflation," and it's commonly used in many other countries, as it measures the inflation that is produced through domestic economic effects, rather than, say, the uncontrollable climate or Mid-East oil spikes.
