Because I was there, at the beach, drinking beer.
Hell, I dont speak Chinese....I didnt KNOW what she was saying ....and one should never swim after drinking.

Garthegoyle....yeah the "floaties "....get off the train, buy a floaty from a shop,....then leave it at the beach at days end.
At least this floaty had some utility.
I'd use the woman to promote the brand of floaty she had.

.{ In another case a Chinese woman drowned at a nearby beach a few days before this.}
Here, Swimming a 7.30pm , no life guards on duty, on a floaty ring. Found 36 hours later.
She should buy a lottery ticket....and she didnt think to call out as she was drifting AWAY from the beach. ?
Stupid.

Bush walking in Shikoku I came across a "beware of snakes " notice board
Snake image had a bow tie and top hat {seriously }
And my response was to laugh and discredit the danger.
10 minutes later, on the path, was the meanest looking snake ever , with a triangle shaped head, almost all black occupying it's space like he owned it.
Yes...posters should be appropriate.

I think airlines X Ray even checked baggage.
There's "stupid " and there's possible terror intent.
No average airline staff could know if the grenades were inert or not.
People rob banks with fake pistols , for example.

Posted in: Man gets 30 years for killing wife, 2 children See in context
These murders occur in Australia.
One case involved a "man " who went through the whole Police process of obtaining a pistol {joined a "sporting shooter club " as a backup reason for his application } waited the weeks that it took, then bought a pistol, and killed his kids in front of his wife .
Another was a farmer who had a rifle. Financial troubles etc. Probably long term drought. Went and shot his wife and 2 sons both pre teen years old, one son shot 100 metres from the house, indicating he had tried to run away.
I can understand the calls for a death sentence here, on this forum.

While I'm reminiscing , this job was in the mid 70's , the pay was excellent with penalty rates {eg double hourly rate } for various shifts and weekends etc, the night shift was 80 hours in a week {sleeping not frowned on } with a week off in the next week.
Plus Aussie dollar was $1.35 to the US dollar.
And all the nurses smoked lots of Thai pot.

Lets not paint "psych. patients " with a broad brush.
I believe stats show a person with a mental illness is less or no more likely to be violent .
Most "mental illnesses " treated by drugs and counselling.
And yeah, I did this job after leaving High School for around three years....I'm in a position to speak of this.
If you look at all the various manifestations of mental illness from good old depression through to hallucinations, persecution, paranoia etc, there's sadly a lot of "space" within the range of diagnosis.
And yes, those with schizophrenia and delusions of granduer were present in the permenant wards.

Nurse stabbed by patient in Psych. hospital and it's nursing staff "who should be vetted "?
I'm with posters who think this idea is itself lunacy.
I used to work as a Psych. Nurse in an old time "lock up ward ", lots of the "criminally insane " present.
We counted how many knives and forks were returned after meals.
Once, a largish , young fellow, was watching TV and ashing his ciggie on the floor.
I said to this patient "Hey, dont do that What do you think those ashtrays {the standing type, made of metal } are for "?
His reply ?
"There're for wrapping around your @@@@ing head "

The French love a bit of drama.
I remember when farmers on tractors basically shut down central Paris.
That was an old EEC dispute, about prices for farm goods and produce.
Years ago.
I cant see any "tension " underneath this dispute other than what was said.
There is a bargaining power at present and unions are using it.
The Olympics are probably past their use by date, like the old farmers on the tractors.
