I've seen this happen in Shimoda.

A person gets on one of those unicorn floaties, gets adrift because it's a normal thing for things floating. But can't get into the water to kick it back into course, or abandon it before getting into the deeper area because, they never learned how to swim before into one of those.

@Margaret

How is this racist troll allowed to post the same thing over and over again?

Do you consider anyone with a different opinion than yours a racist troll?

That's not how debating works.

International shaming might just be the only thing that is going to cause change.

Well, that's not very far from the true. And more to it, that is part an integral part of Japanese culture. Since Japan does have a shaming culture.

Already??? But summer just began.

Heck, I come from a tropical country and the number of people I've known to have gone through heatstroke, I can count them with one hand. And it is hot down there. Really hot and for longer months, with droughts and all that.

People with zero common sense, I say. None!

0.9 birth rate, and decreasing. Does gender matter ?

Just like the rest of the developed countries, that happen to be run by men. So to your question, no, it doesn't matter. This is a world problem caused by so many factors, and not by a single politician.

If you spot anyone who seems confused or in trouble, give them a hand.

But first, make sure they're unarmed before approaching. Help them but stay aware. Dementia is awful and you never know what to expect.

usually the one who'll run. Don't expect any of them will sacrifice their life for others

What a totally pointless comment and out of touch. Can't believe the mods haven't deleted it yet.

Rip to the Chinese woman who gave her life for the mom and kid(s).

Posted in: Do you think school teachers in Japan are overworked? See in context

40 paid holidays

From those "40" paid holidays, at least half of that is spent on taking the students to bukatsu competition, having to go to work to take care of bukatsu while in summer "vacation". Weekends? They may still need to take care of dang bukatsu or if the BoE decided to have classes on Saturdays, then the working week becomes a 6 days week and the day off to correct tests, etc. at home.

And while they could make use of their 20 paid vacation days (after 5 years or so), it is a Japanese society stigma to use those days. That last one is on them, tho.

Waaaaaaaay overworked. And what's also sad, there's not even a Teacher's Day in Japan.

If people want to have a family in the future, is best not to become a teacher.

Posted in: 74-year-old man arrested for allegedly committing indecent acts against girl under 10 See in context

At this point pretty sure this is just trolling, but for argument's sake:

It is not trolling, at all. There are cases of men falsely being accused of crimes they didn't commit, and there are cases of people being rightly accused for things they did.

Someone asked why would anyone defend this guy and the answer is people lie all the time. Either him, or the girl or the mom, for whatever the reason might be. Your feelings in the case don't matter. Facts do and that's why we have courts systems in place. That's why there are jobs for people who investigate to find out the truth. We don't just execute people in public a la North Korea style.

So no, I am not trolling. And I am not defending him either. I'm stating facts, because as Cakehole3201 stated above, I'm an intelligent person.

Posted in: 74-year-old man arrested for allegedly committing indecent acts against girl under 10 See in context

The girl said it happened - why would a 10-year-old girl lie about something that is, for most Japanese girls, a shameful, embarrassing and highly stigmatising thing

Because she's 10. Maybe older women would be ashame to confine a sexual thing to others, but probably less so a ten years old to her mom.

Why anyone would want to defend a sexual predator like this is highly suspicious

Because that's what courts are for. To tell if someone is guilty or innocent of a crime. Is not suspicious at all. There are many sick sexual predators out there. But there are also innocent people whose lives have been destroyed because they were falsely accused. Both happen.

He is the best president in our American history. Look at how much our country has progressed under biden

Is he? Even better than Obama? The US hasn't really progressed much since 2020. Quite the contrary. It's been downhill since March 2020.

Only MAGA people say Biden should be replaced

Not at all. People who think like that are a big problem, and proof that far left is just as bad as far right.

Posted in: A higher-than-usual risk of a heat wave is expected from July to September as the North Pacific High — a high-pressure system over the Pacific Ocean — intensifies. See in context

For the most part, heat stroke is avoidable by using common sense.

So do not go running at noon in the middle of the summer, avoid sports day during the hottest days, stop dressing like Darth Vader in the middle of freaking summer coz you're afraid of a little vitamin D, stay hydrated, avoid long exposure to sunlight during hand labor both outdoors, and indoors with little to zero A/C.

Getting heat cramps, stop what you're doing, shade from the elements and replace your lost fluids. These should avoid passing to the next stage, a heat stroke.

Stay safe out there.

Perhaps it should be closed to the general public to prevent more tragedies.

People die hiking and climbing in other mountains across Japan every year, including ski resort and within their boundaries on the slopes for beginners.

Closing outdoor activities is not the way to go just because accidents could happen.

Posted in: Yen slumps to upper 160 range against dollar despite intervention threat See in context

The season pass in Niseko went up to a whole ¥154,000. That's a 33% increase from before Covid.

With the yen against the dollar, euro and other currencies is still a great deal for foreign tourist. Residents on the other side can suck it up and watch the tourists with envy, like any third world country.

Plus food costs increasing, no drinking in public bills spreading, taxes keep on hitting harder on the middl... what middle class? Traveling abroad is obviously out of question. Costco is paying well but Japanese businesses still paying peanuts. Want to increase the birth rate with all of these (etc)?

Things are not looking great for residents in Japan.

You need permission off season!

It's a gray area. But not, you do not need permission to go to Mt. Fuji during the off season. In fact, the mountain huts are currently operational and in business and taking people, but the "official" climbing season hasn't started yet.
