Japan will "take a lead" in the global efforts to address the deepening humanitarian crisis in the Gaza

Japan take a lead for Middle East crisis? Since when? That statement can only be used toward Japanese local media. No foreign media will believe that.

Symbolic but by the time Japanese politicians finish "deliberating", half of Gazans will be gone.

Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa said Friday that Japan will "take a lead" in the global efforts to address the deepening humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip amid the escalating war between Israel and Palestinian militant group Hamas.

The IDF stated there is no humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Japan should acknowledge there is a terrorist crisis in the immediate area surrounding Israel, and make this the key focus of its policy in that region.

Another way to start Japan should acknowledge settlement expansion from time to time is problematic. That's good start to "take a lead"

Wake up Yoko. Nice words but obviously empty words. Just throw money at the problem as you usually do.

It will be interesting to see the asylum stance from Japan on this conflict and whether any displaced victims could potentially be supported here as refugees.

16 ( +23 / -7 )

Really? Two state solution train left the station decades ago. How about starting with the immediate cessation of all hostilities and the withdrawal of all IDF from Gaza, turn on all electricity, water and allow free flow of aid? Japan is really going to open its doors to Palestinian refugees or just push other countries to do it? This Kishida administration and Kamikawa are a clown show.

(Face palm) When are the people of Japan going to wake up and smell the proverbial coffee?

Comments like these are 100% for the domestic audience! No foreign country, no foreign media, no one outside of Japan, is going to believe any of this!

This is just like Abe and his "Mario diplomacy", all smoke and mirrors, to create the impression among the Japanese people that "Japan is a world leader" "Japan is a country with clout", "Japan can make things happen", and are fooled by the headlines, and then accept the excuses that WILL inevitably come later!

t will be interesting to see the asylum stance from Japan on this conflict and whether any displaced victims could potentially be supported here as refugees.

If Arab and Muslim countries in the world, don't want to accept Palestinian refugees from Gaza, do you think for a second Japan is actually going to accept them here?

Foreign minister says Japan to 'take lead' in addressing Gaza crisis

About the only comical thing I've heard with regards to this crisis.

-7 ( +19 / -26 )

Start with sanctions against Israel until it stops slaughtering children, committing war crimes and fully withdraws from Gaza and the West bank back to 1948 borders!

7 ( +16 / -9 )

Plenty of talk, not much action.

To be fare to the Japanese Government , they have a long history of stepping in when there was a humanitarian crisis. Before the war they were highly regarded in the International Red Cross movement and often took the lead in helping out humanitarian crisis. So it is in the Japanese culture to do so. Really some poster have live here for a while and should by now know a little of Japans good history. I wonder if being pro Japanese on this thread will see my comment deleted by JT like being Pro Arab on the Western Asia crisis threads.

We'll believe it when we see it, but given the hypocrisy and utter moral bankruptcy of the self-styled 'international community" with blood on their hands whose purported love of democracy and human rights and peace etc, has been unmasked by their aiding and abetting the Israelis' monstrous and horrific slaughter of a people in real time and in plain sight of the world's conscience, the Japanese do have a golden opportunity to take the moral lead: offer the Gazans asylum?

Foreign minister says Japan to 'take lead' in addressing Gaza crisis

Japanese politicians don’t have the gravitas to take the lead anywhere. They couldn’t lead Theseus out of the Labyrinth, even with the ball of string.

I wonder what her motivation is for these empty and meaningless statements. She is far out of its depth here.

I read every day the Frankfurter Allgemeine and Corriere Della Sera, both main national newspapers of Germany and Italy and why none of them even mention that Japan is willing to take the lead in the Israel-Palestina crisis?

Actually since the beginning of the crisis not even remotely Japan was mentioned in the related articles.

Seriously this Japanese foreign minister should be renamed propaganda minister.

7 ( +13 / -6 )

The Frankfurter Allgemeine is good for cultural content, but politically right-wing and German with too much baggage and so not to be taken seriously if you want to learn the truth about Israel and Palestine.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

How hard is it to understand Palestine for Palestinians?

If Arab and Muslim countries in the world, don't want to accept Palestinian refugees from Gaza

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Japan should acknowledge there is a terrorist crisis in the immediate area in and surrounding Palestine, and make this the key focus of its policy in that region. First the world can start by calling all their embassies and cut diplomatic ties with the apartheid so called state that stole land and other people houses.

3 ( +8 / -5 )

A two state solution?

Both Israel, Palestine side be side, will forever be an illusion, delusion, a distant mistaken belief of one or the other right to a peaceful existence.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Come on…..Japan is a great country in many aspects. But let’s face it, they should not get involved in this. They are not equipped or knowledgeable enough….It’s actually more annoying when politicians do these gimmicky announcements for their own pride with no plan on how it may actually be done. And they are giving themselves a pay rise……completely undeserved.

15 ( +17 / -2 )

Funny!

People that keep commenting about other Arab countries not wanting the Palestinians as refugees DONT REALIZE that the Palestinians DO NOT want to leave their lands! They did that once in 1948 and they are STILL waiting to return.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

To be fare to the Japanese Government , they have a long history of stepping in when there was a humanitarian crisis.

Really? Where do you get this from? Talk to the people of Tohoku. Oh and Japanese "aid" typically has strings attached.

-3 ( +6 / -9 )

Kamikawa, who became Japan's first female foreign minister in around two decades in September, also said it is important for women to assume "leadership positions" and engage in war prevention, reconstruction and peace-building in Gaza.

Yeah LDP founded by ex war criminals really concerned about peace.

-6 ( +8 / -14 )

Politician's words.

What she gonna say next? "Let's make it sexy," like Koizumi said back in 2019 about climate change?

-5 ( +5 / -10 )

Don't make us laugh, if Japan able to say something beyond or not keep in line with the stance of America.

The U.S. is keen to ship bombs to Israel because she has no empathy for the Palestinians regardless if the casualties of people. The Biden spokesman said the death toll of the Palestinian provided by NGO were fake. Should Japan keep up with the stance of US government?

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

Take the lead in solve your own country problems first!!!..

Foreign minister says Japan to 'take lead' in addressing Gaza crisis

Well. I guess we are all gonna lose, then.

Japan will proactively communicate with related nations toward the realization of a "two-state solution" for establishing an independent Palestine state alongside Israel to resolve their longstanding conflict, Kamikawa said in an interview with Kyodo News.

That this is openly being stated and discussed by Foreign Ministers in key American ally countries like Japan, is fantastic in my opinion. Bravo, Ms. Kamikawa! Hopefully other key nations have the conscience to join what should be a rising international voice to protect the Palestinians from the Israelis.

And make no mistake about it, the Palestinians needs to be protected from the Israelis, and have needed it for quite some time.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Japan can't even negotiate a return of it's own citizens who were abducted by North Korea on Japanese soil decades ago so I'm just wondering who in their right mind thinks that J-gov is going to make headway in a conflict as complicated as this? Seriously, just send some medical supplies and baby formula and stop the with the shenanigans!

4 ( +8 / -4 )

I will give my government the benefit of doubt as I wish for sustainable stability and peace in the territories. Although I agree on the two states solution, the reality is that not much territories are left for the Palestinian governance alone due to the Israel's expansion of settlements over the years. I imagine this is only one of thousands of treacherous issues in seeking two states solutions. I hope Japanese government has guts, stamina, competence, allies in exerting its diplomacy on this issue for the next 50(?) years.

The people in Israel, should be he subjective too the same hell, the people of Palestine are going through,No Palestinian Justice No Israelis Peace

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Israel was catching hell from within, from their own internal problem, what happened in Gaza was only an extension of the problem of Israel

0 ( +2 / -2 )

It’s about time you put your country’s interest first, instead of blindly following the west.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Will Kamikawa san stop Israel claiming Gaza after it has stopped blowing children apart?

I ain’t holding my breath…
