On June 11, Fender Flagship Tokyo started reservations for Made in Japan Art Canvas Hokusai, a collection of three electric guitars with designs inspired by Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849).

Hokusai is best known for his ukiyo-e style woodblock prints of various views of Mount Fuji throughout different times and seasons. Three of his most popular works are featured in the limited collection for 198,000 yen each.

This design is based on one of Hokusai’s most iconic works, The Great Wave Off Kanagawa. It was the first work in his Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji art series. It was produced sometime in the early 1830s.

The original work this design is based on is known as Thunderstorm Beneath the Summit or Rainstorm Beneath the Summit. Judging by the appearance of the mountain and the clouds, this was likely based on a view of Mount Fuji’s western face.

Based on Tama River in Musashi Province, this depicts Mount Fuji as viewed from present-day Tokyo. This particular work features people along with natural scenery, adding entertaining contrast.

To reserve one of these Made in Japan Art Canvas Hokusai masterpieces, you need to visit the Fender Flagship Tokyo shop in person to fill out a reservation form along with the money for the instrument. Guitars are expected to ship out at the end of November 2024. If you’re considering picking up one of these bad boys, we’ve provided the address of the shop below.

I would consider buying one if the image was rotated -90 degrees. The image orientation should be based on how it will look while the guitar is being played, not how it will look sitting in a stand.

Oh, I’m definitely getting one!!!

Just cut some 80's hair metal moves.

The design itself is OK, but somehow it doesn’t sit well on a Telecaster. Or maybe any electric guitar.

These would be my choice if I could still play. My old air guitar is looking a little worn out. Maybe I could buy on of these but not string it.

I disagree, I think beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Every Tele I own with the exception of my very first have very crazy designs, I just don’t like the boring mat colors.

I Gree with some others about the orientation.

great idea, implemented poorly.

I don’t know why are they pushing 3 saddles bridge which is terrible when it comes to intonation when there is 6 saddles bridge which is much better when it comes to the intonation and setup.

So you'd buy a guitar but not play it? Just decoration? It's okay to leave a guitar unstrung for a little time but if you keep it that way for a long time, it'll probably damage the neck.

The Great Wave one looks kind of cool but something tells me you could get a much better guitar for 200,000.

These are Japan made Tele's? Squire model? If I am going to fork 200.000. I want a US model. Yes, the art works cool but.

So is this. https://www.americanmusical.com/fender-player-telecaster-hh-with-pau-ferro-fingerboard/p/FEN-0145233-573
