Posted in: Japan corporate bankruptcies hit 10-yr-high amid labor shortage See in context

Japan has faced three major problems and the LDP has never really seriously addressed any of these; declining population, natural disasters, and energy independence. Instead, they were always self-conscious and concentrated on running around the world trying to be the big player on the world stage, concentrated on the GDP and stock prices and continued mindless public works projects instead of real infrastructure changes. Politics became a family business and they learned how to dole out small bits of candy to the constituents just to keep them happy so they could buy their votes. Over 95% of Japanese companies are SMEs and in this article it states that small businesses accounted for 88.4% of the bankruptcies. Abenomics trickle down didn't work, but it sure made the upper tier happy.

Vote LDP you get LDP. She is still LDP through and through and the folks in Tokyo just proved that they still like the LDP.

It's only window dressing to cover the LDP's culpability, they don't care. Tax all religious organizations, we need the tax revenue anyways.

Posted in: US envoy to Japan expresses regret over alleged sex crimes by military personnel in Okinawa See in context

Two issues. The crimes and the lack of reporting. There needs to be better education and training for all military personnel. After the gang rape of the 12 year old in '95, and subsequent assaults, one would think that there would be a reduction in the number of cases. All the good work that the young Marines and other service members do in the community are over shadowed by these criminals. The reporting. Why did the Okinawa prefecture police take it upon themselves to withhold information? They are the prefectural police, they are here to protect the citizens and to report to, I'm assuming the OPG, not the MOFA. There can be reporting of the crime while withholding the names and protecting the privacy of the victim. Hell, it's done all the time, so the privacy excuse is lame. I think GOJ told the prefecture police to withhold the reporting which becomes an even bigger problem.

If I heard correctly on the radio while I was driving, the mishandled information included secrets about allied ships. Not good. Well, this is after all the country that just got rid of floppy disks from official government business.

Just hypothetical....these low lifes were probably bullies all through their school years and this is the result of not being held accountable in the past. Lotsa kids getting off scott free even when classmates have committed suicide. How are they getting off? Because the school board won't admit that it was bullying for fear of it being evidence that the school was negligent.

Exactly. The demands of the job requires just compensation but unfortunately those that contribute the most to society are relegated to being paid the least. Care givers, teachers, nurses, versus politicians, TV talents, pro sports athletes...

This is not ready for prime time redundant technology. We already have what's called a helicopter. What can this do that a helo can't? Remember the MD trying to replace the CD? The real replacement ended up being MP3 players.

She gave her life for the children.. Did the Japanese government also present her a posthumous award? I read that the embassy flew the flag at half staff, but I would hope that there would be something more substantial. How about renaming the school in her honor?

As callous as this may seem, it's true, I don't think anyone in the international community factors this in when they are creating their military or foreign policy. Even Japan doesn't bring this up unless there's an election or when the poll numbers are tanking.

Yes, yes. And what of the over 5,500 children who were separated from their parents at the border under trump's policy? How many have been reunited with their families? Does DHS know where they are? This is a global scourge so don't start acting all sanctimonious.

Posted in: Paris police chief outlines security measures for Olympics See in context

“We are concerned about the threat of terrorism, especially Islamic terrorism, but also the low-intensity threat from radicalized environmentalists, left-wing extremists, and the pro-Palestinian movement,” Wow, ok, so Islamophobia is still alive and well despite all the window dressing saying otherwise. The targeting of left wing groups is also in line with Europe's turn to the right. Fascists and Neo-Nazis have been legitimized as can be seen by recent election wins, especially in France. Laurent could have easily just said that they were concerned about terrorism, but no, he had to take the extra step to single out Muslims for this international venue. Too bad Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité, doesn't apply to all people eh Monsieur Laurent?

This is why the U.S. earlier had concerns about Japan's IT security and sharing defense secrets. This article doesn't mention what has been reported by Asahi, that JAXA didn't even know they were compromised until months after the attack when they were informed by the police and third parties.

Posted in: Kishida vows to focus on issues that cannot be postponed See in context

How can this clown focus on urgent issues when he's always hobnobbing around the world? He's already scheduled to go to Germany in July. The government subsidies are again his way of boosting his dismal poll numbers. Just throwing people's hard earned tax money at problems without any coherent policy or structural reform. This man's ego has no shame, and the LDP will pay for his folly when people start voting them out.

Posted in: Oppenheimer reportedly apologized, cried in 1964 meeting with A-bomb victim See in context

And so whether Oppenheimer cried or not doesn't explain why Japan isn't a signatory of the TPNW nor have any of the LDP prime ministers met with ICAN even after the organization were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017. Kishida who is from Hiroshima hasn't even thought about TPNW nor meeting with ICAN, but continues to do his PR stunt by escorting foreign dignitaries around the Hiroshima site. Stop playing the victim card and if Japan were serious about stopping not only nuclear weapons but all wars which is the root cause then start playing a real leadership role. BTW, my mother and all schools in Japan were practicing with bamboo spears to prepare for the eventual land invasion of Japan. Think about that before blaming Oppenheimer.

Reform in name only. Kishida was getting beat up in the Diet today and he seemed flustered. Saw the news tonight and Motegi had dinner with Suga and it's assumed that they were discussing post-Kishida plans. Kitchen is getting hot for Fumio. Time to go abroad. Just in time, yay! Germany is on the calendar for July, But alas, we have to pay for his ego rebuilding escapades.
