Posted in: Chinese social media companies condemn hate speech against Japanese after knife attack See in context
A really irresponsible article. Nowhere does it explicitly state the knife attack was not a result of anti-Japan sentiment. It goes even further:
In the latest of a series of knife attacks nationwide, a Japanese mother and her pre-schooler were injured in the eastern city of Suzhou
Why not say "In the latest of a series of unrelated knife attacks nationwide...
The very next paragraph continues:
Anti-Japanese sentiment in China stems from bitter memories of the neighbor's World War II aggression, leading some to celebrate the targeting of its citizens in the attack.
Most of us know the background of this story but people reading this for the first time must surely be thinking a series of anti-Japanese stabbings have taken place all across China.

Grisliest headline of the year.
Funny, I've seen a number of escalators with signs warning about the dangers of wearing Crocs on them but none about walkers. Perhaps they care more about divorced, salarymen with pachinko problems than the elderly.

Posted in: Japan to step up enrollment of foreign residents in pension system See in context
If you are self-employed like me you only get half the pension you would working for a company. I didn't pay mine for years then they came after me so I had to back pay a few years. Basically I'm paying 34000 a month for about 5 years then pay 16900 for the next twenty. They estimate my pension will be 27000 a month. By my calculation, I have to live until I'm 84 just to break even assuming they don't up the entitlement age.
(This country owes me way more than I owe it).

We are all going to have to learn to adapt.
The fact is translators aren't totally redundant yet but their jobs have to change from spending hours translating Japanese to getting AI to do the grunt work so they can do the final checking/rewriting.
Fact is jobs will be lost but those who are willing to adapt and swallow some pride, will survive. They certainly won't live on sour grapes alone.

I feel there is a growing anti-foreign sentiment in this country at the moment and it's affecting me quite badly. So much so, that when I opened this article I just scanned for the word foreign and breathed a sigh of relief when I couldn't find it.
It's a sad state of affairs that will only get worse. Should we rejoice in the Japanese failures such as this for clearing our good names as "the foreigners"?
