I think that we've all been pushed to a breaking point at sometime in our lives, I know I have been, but I did the right thing, I walked away, this defused the situation, I don't know why or what lead him to commit this heinous crime, but he's now going to be looking at four concrete walls for many years, some say not long enough, but either way thirty years is not a short time

I see quite a few similarities between all politicians from all over the world, they all seem to line there own pockets, yet seem to be above the law, and the hard working class get trod on, and politicians get this stigma of liers etc then they can't work out why the common man doesn't vote for them. It's because we're all sick and tired of them and politics, most places if your lucky get 60% turn out,

With only 2 yen in his pocket I might be better off inside, at least he will get fed, I am not saying what he did was right, but he's desperate, poor old guy. Do we give him compassion? Or a sentence? I am thinking that he needs to be helped,

Posted in: United Airlines plane returns to Japan airport for emergency landing See in context

@Speed, it was quoted as a hydraulic fault, it could be a simple issue like a coupling that had come loose, or a split in a pipe, it could have come up with a low pressure warning light, as for closing the runway it might have had hydraulic oil spill down the run way whilst landing, and the run way probably needs to be washed or checked, the last thing you would want is another plane skidding off the runway

Posted in: Japan nursing care bankruptcies hit record high for Jan.-June period See in context

I wonder how much the nursing homes charge per week for a full time resident, this is based just on a elderly person, and what do dementia nursing homes charge? In the UK normal nursing homes start off at around £1400 per week (280,000 yen) and dementia patients are around four times this price, possibly the nursing home might have to up there prices, at what cost? Yes the staff will get paid more, but can residents afford the price hike, and what will happen to them if they can't pay? Will they be invited to leave? Will the government subsidise the nursing home?

@vallum, ref breaking a window, we all have the strength to do this, quite often youl see bus's fitted with a tiny pointed hammer, a light tap in the correct spot is all it needs, as for the glass, it's toughened glass, which means it will shatter into tiny little bits, rather than big shards of glass which will hurt or cut, But your quite right about making the bus doors being made able to be opened from the inside by a press of a large button and a siren fitted, this would of helped.

Wow, I remember this case, today I've jumped in to my car here in Thailand, jees it was sweltering and I suppose the Japanese climate is pretty similar, It was stifling! And that was only for five minutes until the air con had cut in and cooled the car down, as for this girl I can sympathise with here, it must have been horrendous being locked in on that bus and not being able to get off, as for the sentencing, it's a bit leanient. As for going forward, I would like to see a national safety measure put in place and training for all driver of school coach and mini bus's. 1: compulsory training on all safety exits and features, demonstrating to children including a safety hammer how to break a window, 2: compulsory check, sweep of the bus before locking up

Once the vending machines have been updated, will they still be able to accept the old ones? As for some above comments about going cashless, please don't, it's a absolute nightmare, I've been in places where they are only taking online payments, what happens when your phone plays up, the internet signal is non existent, you loose your phone, etc, in Europe they are making it a 50/50 split , I've been in places where is online only, I've offered cash and theve refused, it's been horrendous trying to buy food and drink at several places, I've had to give strangers some money and then they pay via an app, as for the new notes they look fantastic, the UK adopted this idea some years ago, IE, the bank notes are now made out of a polymer, what I like is they are waterproof!

I wonder if they will ever invest the full amount of cash? If they do, why would you waste it then close the place down? The ground is going to be very contaminated with various metal residue's it's going to cost a fortune to clean up, so I can't see the land being sold off as real estate, it's a shame that the Japanese steel co can't be more clearer on what there planning to do as far as modernising the place, in my experience when people are vague and not forth coming, I usually find they are holding something back, they have other intentions, so on this point I feel sceptical on the deal

If the gun was faulty, it should have been checked by the armour, before any firing took place, as for the FBI check, tapping it with a leather hammer, well that's fine, but if it wasn't faulty in the first place it could be by now, how hard do you have to hit it before it breaks? There built very well tbh, and now it's broken? What? I am so uncomfortable with this, the FBI needs to explain how they tested it, if the trigger was faulty, a gentle tap should service, or even try it loaded on one of there ranges under CCTV, but to break a gun? It must have been hit hard,

Posted in: Japan to face 36% truck driver shortfall in FY2030: study See in context

What is the average hourly wage for a driver in Japan? The UK has suffered a shortage of drivers when we left the EU, we made so difficult for Europeans to work in the UK they all left and went back to Poland or xyz, there still is a shortage but they have had to increase the wages as no one wanted to go through the expensive training, and the CPC test and medicals, as shop workers got about the same for filling supermarket shelves! The only way your going to get new drivers is to offer new drivers a good incentive like pay, working conditions, etc

I agree with a small price increase to cover the extra cost of maintaining such a precious monument, but charging that much? Really? That's a blatant rip off, so his idea is to charge around $35 well what happens when the yen to dollar exchange rate declined? This means that tourists in effect will be charged more, depending on the exchange rate that price could go up to $40 or more, will there be any consessions for disabled or seniors, and what about a family ticket? Ie two children and two adults so will he alter the admission price to compensate? My advice to him would be don't get greedy it could back fire on you, remember when tourists come to your town they spend more money supporting the local economy.

Posted in: Teleworking in Japan falls after COVID; hybrid working on rise See in context

There are a lot of pro's and con's to work from home. One of my relatives was forced to change job location or face the fact he could be made redundant, but the central office was just over a hours and ten minutes drive each way, so when COVID came along he had no choice to work from home as the office was closed, the amount of money he saved just in fuel each week, ware and tare on the car like tyres, services, depreciation as the car had got a lot of extra Kms on the clock. In the long run he's far better off financially and the extra time he's gained and less stressed ( traffic jams ) . As for me as a contractor it's a lot better, pre COVID 90% of my quotes had to be done after 6.00pm as everyone was at work, but now a lot more people work from home, so we can call around as we're passing during the day, thus saving fuel costs and time..

The above picture shows a empty room, it looks like a soulless room, is there any tea coffee making facilities? Cafe for a bit of food? If it's just a empty room who would want to sit and work there? No wonder it's empty. Is the internet connection very good or is it poor? Is the room cold or roasting hot ? All of these contributing factors could be responsible for a poor turn out, in the corporate world have bosses been demanding that staff turn up at the office?
