I would be really interested in knowing how she was found.

The photo shows her being winched up from a coastal vessel.

An oil tanker spotted “a woman in a floaty” and sent out a broadcast that was responded to by a local freight vessel (pictured).

Why the blank stock photo of a cop car? There were no photos of a 島根県警 squad car on Etsy?

What would happen to the US economy if they stopped hawking weapons and war machines?

Probably not much. At $25trillion even the highest record of foreign arms sales at $175billion isn’t even 1% of the Is GDP.

Yamanashi may be shooting themselves in the foot, as all those tourists will probably go spend their money at the Shizuoka side.

Too bad the old logging wharf was lost as well. The log rollers had some mad skills.

True, Renault never fully owned Nissan. But they do hold majority in the joint venture, and access rights to all Nissan technologies.

If the situation was reversed and it was US Steel seeking to take over a Japanese steel maker, the song and dance from all sides here would be deafening. Black Ships would be invoked, rightist sound trucks would be doing the rounds, and all manner of dire predictions about Japan’s imminent demise would be fodder for the wide shows.

Did that happen when Renault acquired Nissan?

Also PLEASE re issue the 2,000 yen note it is so convenient and Beautiful in design.

The ¥2000 will never change. It was issued to commemorate the Okinawa climate expo 2000.

It is still in regular circulation, but people who save in cash are hoarding the 2000 for the very reason that it will never change.

I did notice that they are more common in Okinawa, where I got 3 2000s in change when I used a 10,000 at family mart.

Or you could go to a bank and say you want 2000s.

A very similar incident happened about 10 years ago, at the same crater. Some extreme skiers fell into the crater, and a professional climber who attempted to rescue them died as well.

It could have been a series of failed rescue attempts where initially it was only one climber who fell and the rescuers succumb to whatever the cause was one by one.

It will not be long before he is whisked off back to the USA and this will be forgotten about. Sorry to sound so skeptical but given the Japanese judicial system they will a way to make this happen, after all, Japan cannot upset the USA military, can they?

Tell that to the US Navy officer serving a 2year sentence for negligent vehicular manslaughter.

It’s not the 60’s 70’s anymore. SOFA personnel are very much subject to Japanese law regarding crimes that occur off-base/camp.

The orientation briefings make this point very clear.

The "Age of Consent" in the prefecture of Okinawa is 16. And I find it hard to believe that any 1stSgt would use a word like "vestigial" with a bunch of young military critters, assuming they were Marines.

Haha, he did also say a lot of 4 letter words that I didn’t include. SNCOs love to use big words that they don’t even fully understand. If you’ve ever heard the word “behoove” being wrongly used, you’d know what I’m talking about.

So maybe 1stSgt didn’t get all the details correct, at least he prevented some boot AF PFC from potentially molesting a child.

I wonder if the PFC heard any of the words after being confused by "vestigial..." I hope so!

I’m fairly certain he got the point even if he thought “vestigial” has something to do with vegetarianism.

I would’ve just said “shut up, it’s 18. Japanese prison crayons don’t taste good.”

IMO a lot of the “gun craze” is a direct reaction to increased restrictions and proposed additional regulations.

When I was a kid, before the “Assault Weapons” ban, the NRA actually supported mandatory background checks, a federal gun registry, and mandatory safety classes.

They even came to our school and gave firearms safety and handling classes.

In reality the govt does not have the power to “take your guns.”

The gun hoarders and tacticool tards are just having the same knee jerk reactions as the morons who fit out their trucks with “rolling coal” mods when they hear a Tesla showroom opened up two towns away.

I remember during our welcome aboard orientation briefing, they had a Okinawan local who worked at the Burger King give a presentation on things to see and do on the island.

When he asked if there were any questions, some numbskull PFC asked “is it true that the age of consent is 13?” To which the 1stSgt very quickly retorted “that is a vestigial law from a time when infant mortality was high and raising an army was a priority. The prefectural ordnance very clearly states that it is the age of 18. If you want to diddle 13 yr olds, go back to sweet home Alabama where the age of consent is 12.”

China and Japan should focus on large areas of mutual interest, like adapting to climate change rather than these tiny little islands, which could provoke a greater conflict.

Yes, and billionaires should start throwing money on the streets, and babies should poop ice cream cones.

There was a YouTube video of two Australian brothers who bought an island off the coast of Papua New Guinea.

When they visited their own island, they found that Chinese developers illegally dredged a deep water trench to build a massive port.

In their video it shows them being forced out of their own land at gunpoint by an armed guard at a fenced-off construction site.

The PNG government refuses to address the issue despite multiple pleas from the owners, and the Chinese government refuses to acknowledge anything is even happening.

Posted in: Ohtani's disgraced ex-interpreter cut from school textbook See in context

It’s actually quite common for celebrities, especially those who are bad at money management to entrust their finances entirely to an agency or manager.

A friend of mine is an LA based, semi-celebrity comedian. He has absolutely no idea how much money he has and wants to keep it that way, especially after almost going bankrupt due to poor financial and lifestyle choices and drug addiction.

Now he literally just asks his agent, “do I have enough money?” To which the agent just answers, “at this rate, enough.”

Posted in: Ohtani's disgraced ex-interpreter cut from school textbook See in context

How the hell did an interpreter have any access to that money, I cannot figure this out? He is not an accountant, auditor, or what ever, just an interpreter. One must wonder at Shohei Ohtani's grasp of real life reality, but maybe, he was so over paid he did not notice a little bit of loose change going missing.

In Japan it is common for the husband to literally handover all his bank cards, credit cards, etc to the wife; who gives him a cash allowance.

When Ohtani played in Japan, his mother handled all his finances, and he often said he has no idea how much money he has.

When he moved to California, he said he fully entrusted Mr Mizuhara with all aspects of his money management. Mizuhara has also admitted to possessing the access PINs to Ohtani’s accounts, and impersonating Ohtani in phone calls and emails.

He had everything yet he threw it all away.

A famous friendship, personal fame (now infamy), a very good salary (presumably)

He was being paid upwards of $1mill from the Angels, and presumably the same or competitive offer from the Dodgers.

How can being Ohtani's personal translator earn enough importance and respect to be on textbook? I don't get it.

He was included an English textbook in a section called “people who support success.”

If you’d have read the article you’d know what to properly hate on.

”Would you like some tea? It’s from India.”

”We may be at war with them, but let’s not be ridiculous.”

Underground shelters to protect against missile strikes?

She already has by expanding the underground facilities and infrastructure in the Tokyo Metro subway system.

It was intended from the start to serve a second purpose as bomb shelters.

Yes! Next will be a 4m high electric fence right around the perimeter of the mountain. Thats on top of making people pay a levy if they can see the mountain.

Yamanashi is more conservative/protectionist than Shizuoka.

The entire East and north perimeter of Fuji is army training ground and mostly fenced off.

Shizuoka has the more challenging trails and is still free.

The most interesting climb is from the river mouth of Fuji River. Starts from sea level.
