Of course not. Japanese police don't even know how to patrol the streets.

LOL! Never a truer word spoken in jest.

This is so sad. And utterly preventable. The number of times I get asked by my kids if I can swim, and the number of kids that say they can’t, even 5th and 6th graders, beggars belief. Truly.

“Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.” I have to say, I am completely underwhelmed by “Labour’s” victory. Keir Hardie would be screaming his head off.

Keir Starmer's Labour Party got 609,578 fewer votes than his former boss Jeremy Corbyn at the last general election.

This makes me sad and angry in equal measure. Things could and should have been so different from 2019 if Corbyn had refused to put Brexit back on the table as part of the manifesto, persuaded in no uncertain way by Two-Face Starmer.

Kobe. It’s great for a weekend city break, and with it but an hour’s flight from Ibaraki airport, it’s even closer.

They’ve done that already. They’re on Windows 7, don’t you know….!? ;)

And be careful about discussing it in the comments too, Thailand applies this law extraterritorially against non-Thai nationals as well. If I, having no connection to Thailand whatsoever, sitting here at my computer in Japan were to write anything even remotely insulting, I could face arrest for it if I were to ever set foot in Thailand.

And the Thai King can go play tiddly-winks with Father Christmas. Utterly ridiculous state of affairs in the 21st Century. Kick them all out; all monarchs, everywhere; and let them fend for their high-and-mighty selves.

Agree. They’ve been going for far too long now. Just retire gracefully. And I say that as someone who (ha!) saw them in 1989. Twice.

The more I see the likes of the Stones and the Who “on tour” or “possibly on tour” just makes me respect Robert Plant’s stance on NOT reforming Led Zeppelin. And when they have, it’s always been as a one off, or charity gig, then done. Only five times since 1980.

Posted in: Japan to step up enrollment of foreign residents in pension system See in context

Companies with more than 500 workers had to pay contributions. So companies with that number or more split to smaller parts so they didn’t have to pay. (Because they didn’t want to). Then it got changed again to more than 100 workers a couple of years or so ago. This is what my company did.

Posted in: Japan to step up enrollment of foreign residents in pension system See in context

Go after the companies who don't enroll their employees

Think I read on here a couple of years ago when a new law came in that some companies got round paying pension and SS etc by splitting into smaller companies. For example, having one company with 500 employees, they split into 5 companies with 100 employees each, and shafted all their workers. Then it got changed again, about 2 years ago, so they were forced to pay contributions.

So I’ve only been paying for two years. When I retire, if I retire, (I’m 52) I’ll get jack. Been here, working for over 20 years. Now you want to make it compulsory? Thanks Japan!

Why go after the little man; get the big-wigs and the companies that don’t contribute a single yen.

For anyone saying I am being melodramatic, Boris Johnson himself was refused at a polling station in the recent local government elections for lack of ID.

He forgot his ID, and later returned with correct photo ID so that he could vote.

The new rules requiring photo ID to vote were introduced by Johnson's government in the Elections Act 2022. So, he basically thought the rules, that he introduced, didn’t apply to him, or he forgot that he introduced them?

Must have a deep, dark problem

It’s the changing rooms. It’s always the changing rooms. And toilets. They must want to get in there themselves.

Posted in: Lucas on 'Star Wars' critics, diversity, and sneaking into Cannes See in context

Forget woke and diversity, if we are talking about Star Wars. My main bugbear, after I stopped being 10-12 years old, was how the hell didn’t Luke know his father was Vader? Why was it such a surprise? Didn’t he apply to join ‘the Academy’ but couldn’t get in? “Oh, perhaps your father could put-in a good word for you?” knowing full well that Anakin Skywalker=Darth Vader? Didn’t he go to ‘market’ and such? Didn’t the people he trade with mention anything, even in passing, “I see your father is out destroying the Universe again, Mr. Skywalker. Hope they don’t come here, we don’t need any of that Rebel Alliance here, thank you very much.” Didn’t Wedge, upon meeting Luke again, say, “Hey, I heard a strange story in the canteen the other day. Someone was saying that Anakin Skywalker is Darth Vader! Can you believe it? Wasn’t he your father?” And Luke didn’t know? Not even an inkling?

I asked a simple question. Is he guilty of lack of diversity and if so, provide evidence. Why else are you posting on this thread.

I’ll answer even if Jimizo will or won’t:

No. How can Lucas be? It’s a sci-fi/fantasy series of movies, set in space. And so-called ‘woke’ people require accuracy/diversity? SMH. It’s ridiculous in the extreme.

I know many Star Wars fans said the one with Liam Neeson in it was a pile of steaming crap.

It truly was. Episodes 1-3 were a steaming pile. So disappointing. I haven’t even bothered with 7-9; and it’s likely to stay that way. Nothing to do with ‘woke.’

And Bass, as for Disney being ‘woke,’ they’ve been like that since at least ‘the Jungle Book,’ ‘101 Dalmatians,’ and ‘Mary-bloomin’-Poppins.’ What do you think a “Happy Ending” is, if not ‘woke?’
