Really? All that fuss for just a box of sweets? I get that being cranky is natural for the elderly, but come on!

I wonder if the "friend" is a younger sweetie. Maybe a sultry 70-year-old? Sweets for my sweet, assault for my honey.

Undoubtedly decades of pent-up aggression between this couple in a marriage whose secrets even a Solomon wouldn't know where to begin to unravel.

.... man is accused of hitting his wife in the face several times with a floor wiper during an argument.

At least the old man didn't wipe the floor with her. A mitigating fact?

Wife sounds very controlling.

He has a right to buy whatever he wants without asking for her permission.

Wife sounds very controlling.

He has a right to buy whatever he wants without asking for her permission.

But he does not have a right to assault his wife, hence the arrest.

The wife may be controlling. The husband may be a cheater. We don’t know the full story. Regardless, it’s really gross and disturbing the way that some posters always seem to make this sort of situation into a joke or to find a way to blame the victim.

Is this a case of jealousy?

Does the elderly guy have a lover?

What he should of done is bought two boxes,

Perhaps the old guy was giving the other women sweets in return for his treats!!! If the women was a friend perhaps the wife wouldn't mind but as the story tells us she didn't know so perhaps she didn't agree with his kindness to another women.

There are other issues here...

The whole “box of sweets” story is just his comment. It has nothing to do with the crime, which was domestic violence. Probably not the first time.

Any surprise so many hesitate to get married?! Media needs to not shine a spotlight on this madness, much like suicides. It just makes things WORSE.

Plus, LIKELY they have no kids. Couples with kids are more responsible, as kids help to regulate good behavior, crazy stuff like abusive behavior has real COST.

Wish my neighbours were so kind and thoughtful every time my wife and I had domestic, especially when I am losing, which is most of the time.
