Falling population.

Many places in Suzu city still don't have water from the earthquake on January 1st. The water in my own home in Noto cho was just restored early last month.

Still many house still damaged in Noto.

Wajima still looks like some cities in my home country at the end of the second world war.

Inflation

Yen rate is at its lowest in years to the Euro and the Dollar

Make your country stronger first before you go off playing the fiddle around the world as Japan burns.

Not a native English speaker. I get messages from clients from English speaking using abbreviations I have a veiy hard time understanding what they mean. Especially with Americans when using slang terms. For Japanese when talking to someone from Kanto and they abbreviate places in Tokyo. Abbreviations and slang can be difficult for non native speakers of any language.

Other then the Earthquake that happened on January 1st where I live in Okunoto is probably the best place to relax in Japan. This will return back to normal as they were before the Earthquake in the coming years. Okunoto has very easy going friendly locals especially toward foreigners, so many places of natural beauty, mountains and the sea, stars at night are beautiful, great for meditation and stress relief, great food and fresh vegetables that are in expensive, etc. Why I live here and why I won't live anywhere else in Japan. Some of the place to visit after things have calmed down in a few years in Noto Cho are:

1 Tsukumo Wan

Ishikawa Ken Route 35 along Uchiura. From Ushitsu to Matsunami. Great view of Toyama Bay.

3 Yanagida Shokubutsu en. Seeing the stars at night.

4 In the summer many kinds of Kiriko Matsuri. My town will have the Abare Matsuri this year tomorrow and Saturday 7/5 and 7/6.

To my me, my wife, and children the best place for us in Japan.

Other places I visit in Japan

1 Osaka, Kyoto, Otsu for business, shopping, and Biwako.

2 Aomori to twice a year once in the summer and once in the winter to visit my wife's family. To get there I drive along the sea of Japan using route 8 and route 7 to see the Sea of Japan. No I do not use the expressways because you always miss so much. I stop in Akita City for the night. Next day stop at Tazawako before my family and I get to Aomori. In Aomori I like to visit Omagasaki, Towada Ko, Mutsu, and Ogawara Ko and other places.

Lived in Japan for 18 years. Nagoya 5 years, Kyoto 5 years. living on Noto Hanato now almost 8 years. Even though I lived through the events of January 1st living only 19 km from the epicenter. Still Noto cho is by far my favorite place to live in Japan. My wife who is from Aomori still loves it here.

Tokyo and the Kanto Region and even Eastern Japan as a whole both of us feel we really feel that lifestyle is not for us even Aomori. When I take my family to Kyoto or Shiga for a few days we actually really get tired of the urban lifestyle after a few days and we always have the conversation and ask how could people live like this. Urban lifestyle not for me or my family. We enjoy visiting the city for shopping and getting away for a day or two.

Posted in: Fuel shortage in Japan hinders flight increases amid tourism surge See in context

I absolutely hate flying the only time I ever do it is when I need to go overseas on emergencies. Back in the mid 2010s before relations with Russia soured I even pondered finding a way to go to Vladivostok and taking the Siberian Rail Road or driving from Vladivostok to Frankfurt Germany on an Epic Road trip. Still thought I would get a chance before Russian relations soured. Hence that dream is now put off for a very long time. The last time I was overseas from Japan was in 2010 visiting family. Domestically I drive my car if I go to Hokkaido I use the Hakodate Oma ferry. Never use Shinkansen unless there is an emergency with my wife's family in Aomori and we need to leave from Kanazawa and need to get to Shichinohe Towada station on the same day.

Flying hate it, not the actual flying part but the annoyance you have to go through at Airports in general.

Driving and Motor biking Love it.

Shinkansen over priced, routes force you to go through Tokyo.

Suggestion:

Instead of that new Riniya Shinkansen that keeps being delayed and sounds dangerous especially with the prediction of that Naiki Earthquake or a volcanic eruption in the Minami Alps occur and there are many volcanos in that region. They should invest in a Nihonkai shikansen connecting Tsuruga with Aomori. This would be one of the most beautiful Shinkansen routes train in Japan the route is already available in most sections. Tsuruga to Naoetsu. Just connect Naoetsu to Nagaoka in Niigata and create a Shinkansen line along the cost from Niigata to Aomori. People from western Japan locations who are going to Hokkaido can just avoid flying and avoid going through Nagoya, Tokyo, and Sendai. It would cut time, expenses, and avoid Tokyo.

I have experience living in various places in the Kansai region and Hokuriku. I also travel frequently through chuubu region and Tohoku. My wife is from Aomori. I find the most difficult region to get along with other Japanese is the Kanto and Tohoku regions. Through my experience living on Noto Hanto in Noto cho for the past seven years and now after the earthquake I still find the Japanese more open and friendly towards me and other foreigners who are long term residents here. I actually find this region the most favoriable for foreigners in Japan. Just another reason why I really love this region even after the earthquake.

Posted in: City hit hard by quake had highest rate of old homes See in context

What this article mentions is homes build before 1981. What it does fails to mention is that homes built between 1950 and 1981 were quickly and badly built. As a resident of Noto Cho seeing the damage first hand in Suzu, Wajima, Anamizu, Noto Cho, and Northern Nanao most homes that were built between 1950 and 1981 were seriously damaged or destroyed showing the bad craftsmanship and mentality of the Showa time period. This is one of the reasons why I chose to buy a home from the end of Meiji and Early Taisho era. You can see homes built on Noto Hanto in the Meiji, Taisho, and beginning of the Showa era up to 1950 most of these homes and there are many in Noto Cho and Suzu faired very well this Earthquake. My home built over 100 years ago sustained minimal damage especially to the foundation. Where I live many people own homes similar to mine and also faired very well too due to the well built architecture which were made for earthquakes. The thinking of this time period where homes were for generational living no only one generation were to live in the home but many generations to follow this is why homes build prior to 1950 were very well built here.

This opens up a very deep question about the future Naikai Earthquake. How will homes fair that were built between 1950 to 1980 will fair in Shizuoka, South Osaka, Nagoya, Wakayama, and other parts of southern Japan because there are far more in all of these prefectures and cities than on Noto Hanto.

I'm live in Noto Cho in an area called Yanagida Mura. There is no water in some places like Ushitsu and parts of Yanagida but you still can't use it to do anything. We are getting water daily from the Japanese Military as well as a bath house by the military which you can take a bath any day from 2pm to 9pm. There is plenty of food you can buy from Shinya Super which is the local supermarket. Though doing laundry is difficult, I go from Noto cho to the coin Laundry in Hakui city which is about 70km away to do laundry. Other than that the situation here is liveable and all of the locals here are helping each other. Its a difficult situation but we getting by.

Its just devistationg to think back what it was and in a matter of a minute what these things can do to peoples lives. Wifi came back on just a few days ago. Even though it effected my family and I directly we Love this Noto its culture and natural beauty and will not leave it. Even after this earthquake my family and I will continue to live here in Yanagida and rebuild. 能登半島頑張ろう!伝統的な文化と建物残そう!

Posted in: Japan to partially lift ban on ride-hailing services from April See in context

Though it wasn't really required, I actually got a 2種運転免許 (professional license) on my own for my own hospitality business years ago to take my clients to and from Kanazawa station or Noto Satoyama Airport. Never wanted or had any ambitions to drive a taxi for a company in this country.

The partial lifting will allow drivers with a standard license to offer taxi services using their own vehicle in areas and times when taxis are in short supply, on the condition they are under the management of a taxi company.

Its the 個人Taxi Law that makes it so difficult, this states that a person with a professional license who wants to accept clients on there own must work for a Japanese company for three years and have a safe driving record, no accidents, and, no traffic violations. If the drives misses even a stop sign they will have to be a slave to a Japanese taxi company for 10 years before they can file an application for even becoming a 個人taxi driver.

A full lifting on a ban on ride-hailing services such as Uber that directly connects private car owners with individuals seeking transportation, is still under discussion, with a decision to be made by June next year.

Why the above will never be lifted and I'm certain if it is the government will require a 2種免許証which it absolutely should be required to even drive clients from one place to another. This means the car will have to have a green license plate and more than likely require several (車検) every few months and more strict rules and regulations.

The simple solution is get rid of 消費税(sales tax) all together or ban it on food and life essential items. This will never be done because everytime the price goes up its essentially a tax increase for these schwine hutes in this government.

Another solution is increase taxes on all big companies that are reaping the benefit on the weak yen , take government funds, and hord cash that refuse to increase salaries. These companines should be fined and have their tax increased exponentially. This will never happen because how much the LDP schwines are associated with big companies.
