This woman is literally a walking, singing, money making machine! Damn.....

I'd never really listened to her until yesterday, when my daughter, who's down from Tokyo, played some of her older stuff during a drive we took. It wasn't bad - not something I'd listen to by choice, but I didn't rip the player off the console and throw it out the window. I did not detect any evidence for such overwhelming enthusiasm, though. Different strokes.

Dont worry Uncle Bob, still lots of old geezas like us who prefer older music.

Give me a warm prune juice and some Perry Como at night and I be a happy chappy.

Considering she single handedly beat the 49ers to win the Super Bowl in Vegas earlier this week, it’s no wonder Tay Tay’s seen by the world as the Second Coming.

I want to like her, she is known to do great things through donations and supporting local businesses on her tours. But, her music is just so sterile and boring. Beyoncé blows her out of the water as a singer and songwriter. But Swift’s “image” is tough to beat, great publicist!

Not sure which is worse, the prune juice or Perry Como.

Now, if it was The Rolling Stones, Joe Cocker, Slade or The Hollies, that's a different story.

Excellently put.

I’ve listened to her music and I think it’s pretty good. I can imagine that in my teenage years I may have sneered at it but people should grow out of that stage.

There is nothing worse than listening to the types who “like the old Fleetwood Mac and Genesis”.

It’s like listening to people with an encyclopedic knowledge of cars.

Astonishingly boring people who probably quit playing guitar after having to a work a little harder to get past the opening riff of Smoke on the Water or Purple Haze.

Anyway, good luck to Taylor Swift. Apparently she’s a decent type.

Beyoncé blows her out of the water as a singer and songwriter.

Hardly. On too many of her songs Beyoncé contributes a token few words for songwriting credit and the other seven or eight songwriters actually write the lyrics.

The subjective nature popular music, the fans, the queuing/standing in line to purchase with one hard earned, expensive merchandise, the camaraderie, to quote.

Creating Swift-themed friendship bracelets, preparing outfits and learning "fan chants" to belt out during performances. is escapism in its purist form, my English family continue to wax lyrical about repeats of "Stars In Their Eyes".....

“Tonight, Matthew, I'm going to be"…

The inescapable difference or fact is sheer scale leveraging the commercial rewards.

I can't help but hear a faint whisper....

"It's not personal, Sonny. It's strictly business." ........

I think you have to be a musician to understand the genius and amazing writing and arrangements by both groups overall, I get it, it is subjective, but their music bad??? Wow.

Yeah, just had a very deprived or very limited musical upbringing

Anyway, good luck to Taylor Swift. Apparently, she’s a decent type.

She is definitely a great musical entrepreneur without a doubt.

The Mac had a few good songs but I never got into them very much. Their later 80s music had some nice synth touches to it, however. That and it gives me fond memories of when I was in Nevada in 1987. As for Genesis I love that band a lot. I got to see them for free by working at security for their show at my university stadium. I had to report earlier to work to get ready and we saw Phil, Mike and Tony set up, program and do testing on their gear. Lemme tell ya, folks. Genesis music is quite complicated and complex. Genesis finally packed it in last year, their music is not for jr. high 'basement' bands who play at the dances.

Entrepreneur fershure. But her music has no substance to me. Style but no substance. And will she remembered and respected as important 20, 30 years from now? I doubt it.
